This makes me sigh loudly and wonder what the hell is wrong with people.

  • Oh, my goodness. At Columbia University? Proof positive there are really, really stupid and lame people everywhere, I guess. This article is a bummer.

  • To me this is painful. Obviously it might have been meant as a "hate prank," but nooses have a very gruesome and real history in this country. They are a very poignant symbol to African-American people, as there are many in this country who's great-grandparents or grandparents have be lynched from a tree. It is not that far back.

    This incident was done following the Jena 6 case in which white students hung a noose from the "white tree" after a black student sat their for lunch. It is meant to intimidate or "send a warning" to the African-Americans to whom it is done to. But really it is meant to spread fear and to keep people from truly being mentally free. Lynching still exists in the minds and psyches of whites and blacks in this country and what it represents is a desire for the extermination of "the other." To keep someone "in place." Although it is ignorant, it is not invisible and is still painful.

    it could of been worse.

    a nosse is a noose. and the knot is widley used all around the world for many things besides hanging people. its actually one of the best knots to tie hooks to fishing line. and to anchor ships to a harbor.

    and the person that probably did it was either a former student of the professor or a current one. 90 percent of the time its a practical joke. and if it wasn't a joke the person is probably nuttier that squirrel crap and belongs in a mental hospital.
