Students! This Country Needs to Hear Your Voice!

In this article, Tom Friedman is practically begging college students to get off the computer and take real political action. Virtual activism is just that -- he says -- virtual. There are too many problems being created right now that will affect youth down the road. From climate change, to social security and healthcare costs, to a rising deficit -- students need to be asking candidates the right questions in a continuously louder voice.

Good point Danny...Current NEEDS to hear your ISSUES TOO!

  • Friedman sounds like a whole host of other "Gee Whiz, kids these days don't know how to RIOT anymore!" pundits.

With all of the accomplishments of the early Civil Rights movement of radical youth to commend, it's easy to overlook the fact that the excesses of the counterculture soon pushed mainstream America into the reactionary clutches of Richard Nixon.

There are a lot of reasons (economic, technological, and psychological) for our generations particular form of social protest, and telling young people that it just really ain't like '68 anymore isn't likely to change any of them...
  • funny how perspectives change over time. "now you kids better get out there, smoke some marijuana, get in a riot, and start dodging the draft or we will MAKE you".
  • Danny-
Great point. I completely agree. Young adults in America are unwilling to fight for change. I think that more young people should want to get their voices heard and MAKE them heard. We are facing a lot of huge issues right now and its very important that we, as the next generation, start addressing them. We need to make a riot! We need to be loud and get our voices heard. Why don't more people ask questions?!
  • We as young people have so much power we don't even realize it. We are smarter than people think we are. We are living in faster world than the generations that came before us. Our choices have greater impact, and yet we let those that do not understand our make decisions for our future. We need to wake up and act..
  • there are SOOOO MANY PEOPLE who don't want to waste a vote, face it if you are deciding between the front 4 you are wasting your vote either way. they all work for the same people! I can't imagine how terrible this world would be if mccain or hillary were running for pres, but it isn't gonna be much better with obama or mitt romney.

"they" 're trying to scare everyone with stocks dropping 370 points, so you'll vote for someone "meaningful", you don't want a jackass in charge so you vote for mitt cause the media says he's number two. The polls aren't over til november so VOTE FOR CHANGE not for a candidate. Everyone knows Ron Paul isn't a crazy lunatic like everyone in the media is painting him out to be, vote for him now and vote for him as independent.

You've gotta see that the media is waggin the dog! WAKE UP! WAKE UP! Lest we spend another 20 years in baghdad.
