Americans deserve more protection

It is not just you Americans who deserve this better protection from your government's prying eyes and ears, since your government also thusly invades the telephone conversations, emails, and privacy of most people outside of the USA. Who better than yourself could possibly implement the necessary measures to redress this situation?

"We the people" voted for you in 2000 and were unallowed to have the leader we rightfully chose. What are they thinking in Congress? Please run, sir. You are the only one who is talking like this, in simple, straight forward and clear terms.

I was at a huge wedding over the weekend. Everyone was buzzing about your win of the Nobel Prize and hoping that you would run for president to save us from completely inadequate candidates running now.

Please enter the race for the President. We need you, a leader with experience and wisdom, to deal with the most serious challenges our country has ever faced, the most critical being Global Climate Change. We need you to shift the national debate. Climate Change will become the issue everyone cares about most on the day you declare that you are running for President. If not, then it is business as usual, and the crisis of Global Warming will only be addressed on a scale that reflects its relative importance in the polls, far too little, far too late.

None of the other candidates has the courage to speak out like this on an issue that most Americans are very unhappy about because they are afraid. They apparently don't even understand what it means to defend the Constitution.

Please run. We need you

It's good to hear you make the point that the Bush Administration's efforts have been clearly unconstitutional. We already have all the tools we need to perform legal and constitutional wiretapping. The current administration has not once given a decent reason why they need these extra-constitutional powers.

Forgive me for adding to what might seem to be an unrelenting chorus, but I believe a Gore Presidency might well be the best hope we have of addressing the issues you raise today. You have the capacity to lead this country while honoring our Constitution and taking our Constitution seriously.

Of course you are reluctant to run. Don't run.

But please, if you are willing to serve, please publicly state your willingness to serve. You don't have to say you are eager to serve. You don't have to say that you know that further elective service is self-evidently the best thing for you to do with a big chunk of the rest of your life.

All you have to do is state that if the American people want you to serve as President, you are willing to serve, and that you will do your level best and then some to do a good job.

The rest is up to us.

The Democratic Congress has been such a disappointment since the first flurry of activity last winter. I don't know what's holding them back... all they do is talk about what needs to be done and conduct investigations that don't lead anywhere -- apparently because they don't have the courage to confront the White House. In the meantime, our country continues to violate the standard of conduct we used to set an example for, including violating the privacy of its citizens. AND, addiing insult to injury, the Congress is actually considering absolving the telecom companies that made the illegal wiretapping possible from any responsibility for breaking the law.

This has to stop, and the best way to do that is to have a President in the White House who will set the tone for the changes we need. You, Mr. Gore, are that person. Please, please, just run!

Congratulations on winning the Nobel Prize! You deserve it in so many ways.

You are so correct that we and Congress must protect the American people from the evils of the Bush Cheney administration and those in the media who twist the news to further King George and his Robber Barons!

You are our best candidate for president. You will lead the American people to undo the destruction to our democracy caused by the Bush-Cheney Neo-con campaign machine. Bush-Cheney stole the 2000 and 2004 elections. Illegal suppression of 2008 Democratic votes has begun. We have good Democrats running, but only you know how to overwhelm the Neo-con machine.

However the nomination, election and being President are only the first, barriers. You will lead our intense struggles to replace: The Politics of Fear. Blinding the Faithful, The Politics of Wealth, Convenient Untruths, The Assaul on the Individual, National Insecurity, and The Carbon Crisis.

Our Democracy is in the Balance over the next year. You are our best chance for the survival of our democracy. We must develop A Well-Connected Citizenry to replace the machine that will control the Republican presidential candidate.

Please Al Gore, re-read the last two chapters of The Assault on Reason. Ask To Be or Not to Be? Decide To Be in time to participate in the South Carolina, Georgia, Illinois and New Hampshire primaries.
