California had the number 1 ranking in college football (potentially) but Kevin Riley decided to RUN the ball with time expiring? The Red Sox gave up seven runs in extra innings in Fenway to give the Indians the game. So the question is "Who blew it worse?"

Easy - Cal.
-
Not so easy. I am not convinced that even if Cal won the game in overtime that they would have been the number one seed. Ohio St. won convincingly and is in a decent conference as well.
-
I'm pretty sure that Cal would've been #1. Who did Ohio St beat this weekend? Kent St? Please. They should be done playing scrub teams by this point in the season.
At least where the Sox are concerned, they have five more chances to redeem themselves. Alas, Cal does not reap the same benefit. -
Hey the BCS has done crazier things than that. We can't trust these computers to be reasonable because they aren't. Cal might have been number one in the AP and then number 3 in the BCS, who knows? Winning by three or seven points against an unranked team doesn't get you to many points in these rankings. The Red Sox meanwhile have lost homefield advantage and a lot of momentum.

What? Who cares, think before you post.

BoSox will recover! See ya Bears!

Never doubt the power of the Red Sox. They're playing like they always play.
Anyone remember games 4-7 in 2004?-

one game in the ALCS vs. a team's first opportunity to be #1 since the advent of the forward pass?
-
Looks like the Cal loss was the worst. i have to agree. Although they could've lost anyway. Oh well. Sorry Bears.
-
Cal most certainly had a bigger impact because of the obscured play calling from the coaches. I mean they were in field goal range before running their last two plays. Excellent effort from the players, but only if Cals coaches had more common sense theyd be #1 right now.

It has to be the Red Sox, they had a chance to go up 2 - 0 in a series and they blow it in extra innings. Cal may have been ranked number 1if they beat OSU last saturday; but they will lose this Saturday. The UCLA Bruins are like Rasputin, just when you think they are dead they come out of the shadows to bring some pain the Cal Bears.

i believe that just about every major college football program has screwed the pooch one way or another this year and until a playoff system is in place, we will see more first downs and second guesses.
"holy moly! MAN, WOMAN and CHILD...did that put em in the aisle?!?!?" lyle bremser 1971 oklahoma vs nebraska game of the century...said after johnny the jet rodgers punt return for a touchdown-

Easy. Cal. They literally blew their shot at a national championship (and if you think anybody's gonna put them in a national championship game if they "win-out" and a couple of other things happen, you're trippin. they lost AT HOME to an UNRANKED team.) too bad too. i love the program tedford's got goin right now (although i wouldn't want their defensive backs on even my flag football team :) )
Red Sox still have 'atleast' a 25% chance of winning it all. which will move-up to about 33% after Colorado does their thing later.
