So there was a pretty one sided answer to my post this morning that asked who blew it worse over the weekend the California Golden Bears loosing in the last seconds of the game or the collapse in Boston which tied the ALCS 1-1. Most people said that the Bears blew it harder than the Red Sox. Tonight the Indians won game three and have taken a 2-1 lead in the ALCS. So its time to update your response.

  • Cal Bears' loss cost them a shot at the national title.

BoSox loss cost them game 2 of a seven game series (wupdee-wup).

  • Lets call a spade a spade here and admit that the California Golden Bears were not and are not a national championship contender. They did however have a chance to get the number one spot for at least a week. They could loose to UCLA, Arizona State or USC which are three out of the four teams they play next. To me this was a COLLEGE football game where crazier things have happened. If you believe that this team is a legit contender then the Cal Bears blew it worse.
On the other hand if you didn't go to UCB then you might consider that the Sox are now in a bit of a pinch. Cleveland is hungry and at home now. If Wakefield isn't throwing a good knuckle tonight then this team won't be smiling as usual on that Visiting bench. They gave up 7 runs in extra innings. To me thats blowing the game.

  • you know it's hard to even continue this argument because your actual "logic" from the get-go is skewed. you say "the california golden bears were not and are not a national championship contender..." uh, w h a t ? you may not like the bears. you may even think they suck beyond belief (i actually believe that yes, they aren't one of the top 3 or so in the nation, they're probably somewhere in the 6-10 top teams). but to say that they weren't a contender for the national championship is just stupid and shortsighted. hello? they were the number 2 team in the country halfway through the season. guess what? THAT makes them a contender. if the season woulda ended BEFORE they even lost that game, guess what? they're in the national championship. that's why it was a much much bigger loss. the college football season is like sudden death if you're shootin for the championship and the bears were fortunate enough to have the "inside track" to that championship on the exact day they blew it. you can't compare that sudden death nuance with game 2 of a SEVEN game series. ridiculous.

  • Maybe I am being ridiculous because I feel like your proving my point. Since I, like you don't consider Cal to be a top 3 team (i actually put them somewhere in the 10-20 range in this crazy season) and see the schedule that they have ahead I can't consider them a contender for the National Title. Why? because I have no confidence that they will even be on top of the Pac 10 after the season is over.
Listen I have no problem with the bears, I went to school at GW for chrissake (no football team). I was actually rooting for them at the end with a Berkeley friend of mine. Bottom line is that both the Red Sox and the Bears messed up big. The Red Sox were the clear favorite to win the World Series in most peoples minds before they lost that game. The Bears on the other hand weren't even a unanimous favorite to win their conference. So the Red Sox had more on the line and lost it in an aweful way. Condolences to both teams. In the end time will tell. If the Sox go on to win Cal blew it harder. If the Bears go on to win-out then they blew it harder. Truce.
