John Lavall started Devlo Media, a film and video production company in 1997 and has produced and directed several narrative and documentary films. Recently he produced, photographed, and edited a documentary about the historic Columbus theatre in Providence RI which won The Viola M. Marshall Audience Choice Award for Best Documentary at the 2002 Rhode Island International Film Festival. This documentary, about the Berberian family’s forty year struggle to keep their theatre open at any cost, screened at the 2002 IFP Spotlight on Docs in NYC, The NY/LA Independent Film Festival and The Mannleu Short Film Festival in Barcelona, Spain. Lavall is currently producing the documentary “... a thousand papercuts.” that will be exploring the debate surrounding marine transportation of liquefied natural gas in New England. The documentary will focus on the impact of the two proposed LNg facilities in providence, RI and Fall River, MA.
