17 year old boy charged for having sex with girlfriend

Is this fair? First 17-year-old Damon Hadley's girlfriend's father beat him when he found out that Hadley had sex with his 15-year-old daughter. Then, Hadley gets charged with a "misdemeanor sexual assault, which carries up to a year in jail." I know 15 is young to be having sex, but the couple is only two years apart in age. Have you ever dated someone two years older or younger than you? I know I have.

I'm not saying that the police should not be involved in any sexually based offenses, but I do not think that this particular act should be considered a sexually based offense. Both Hadley and his girlfriend gave their consent, so he did not do anything against her will. Therefore, I do not think that he should be charged for this.

  • Unfortunately, in order to protect the 15 y old who doesn't give consent, regardless of gender, a few innocents get in the way. I don't think it is fair, but it is just--does that make sense? But then, I also don't think most 15 and 17 year olds know nearly enough about their bodies to be sexually active. The root of this issue isn't that Damon is unfairly being charged with sexual assault, but a problem with American society at large as far as sexual awareness and education goes.

  • Agreed, they are too young to know what they're doing. But I don't think that he should be charged for something they both did, if that makes sense?

  • I think so too. It's so unfair when a 17 y old *kid* gets a record because his (or her) boyfriend or girlfriend is underage. Some states have a clause that says a two year or 3 year difference is okay, otherwise a kid who turns sixteen a few months before his girlfriend could get charged as well, very similar to this case. But then again there are those few cases where the younger needs to be protected, it is just so hard to draw a line.

  • I think about this offten as a teen girl ,I was haveing sex with guys alot older then my self.ie: at 14 I was "dateing"a 35 year old man.I thought it was fine and never got hurt or anything bad ...............but now I am a mom and I watch to catch a pedo and if any man ever talked to my daughter ,I'd kill him.ok ok maybe I just needed to vent,but my point is if its love then it's worth the wait

  • you people are amazing.. these same age people can go out killing up a school yard of kids and teachers and do anything and everything else.. but if they were @@@getting paid @@@ to play sports.. it would be talking about how mature they are and, how confident they are and how self assured..

    just like that 15 year old tennis star knows her body enough to win millions of dollars.. then you can't assume this girl does not know her body..

    there is no manual about sex.. and none of you had one either.. you learn by doing and thinking, thinking and doing..!!!

    that's why half of these kids run away and want to get the hell away from most of you HYPOCRITICAL people. and why people end up raising these predator mentality kids acting like clones of each other in their predator ways.. and, the same kids end up with the boys being a mass of women killers among their ranks and, baby molesters when they get older..

    honestly .. kids look at you as ""hypocrites "" .. that's why they rarely care to talk to any of the older people.

    just haivng fun, if anyone reads a lil history you'll see that by the age of 14, yes 14 most girls were married and had at least one kid already. Around the 10th,11th, centuries in Europe.

  • When I read this kind of item, I always think: When is this ridiculous Puritanism going to stop? When is this country --and the even more ridiculous Legislature and Judiciary-- going to stop being in denial and accept that children much younger than 16 or 17 ARE ALREADY HAVING SEX? The most notorious cases are those of teachers having sex with their underaged pupils... has any idiot ever considered that the UNDERAGED might be soliciting the OVERAGED. It's sickening to visit other countries and see how pathetically backwards we are, as a country! Starting by our indifference to learn other languages, and continuing with the aberration that we are better, the dollar is king, and the world should bow to us. NUTS! Why do we perpetuate collective myopia? Maybe we deserve what we have in the White House! A "donkey President for donkey citizens"... And then Al says he's out of the race. When we need him more than ever!

  • Skrem, I think it's clear she was suggesting that all of us, should mind our own business. I'm not all that clear on the laws over there regarding underage sex. But, I do think that this issue is actually the parents responsibility, considering they are generally held responsible for their kids behavior, until they are 18. So, I believe that this really is an issue that should remain in the family. And I have to say, how come no one questions the behavior of the father. Is it acceptable for adults to beat up teenagers by way of 'simple' assault? I think these folks need to realize its the 21st century. That said, I do not have kids, and cannot comprehend the parents instinct to protect them.

    Life is no joke, and this so called {play time ages".. and the stupidity of people telling their kids, enjoy their play date and mate years... when all life is life.. and you can't tell people what love is to them nor can you tell people all the stupid stuff people tell young people.. they are human and their bodies function with their minds just like everyone else. That;'s why american women are so screwed up in the head.. they are taught they can just be treated like a barbie doll and go out mate and date shopping and showing their butt and tempting and teasing and life is suppose to give them the lap of luxury.. leave them alone and let them live and love as love comes to their lives.. and as for sex.. if God knows enough to activate their bodies to be reproduction.. it's not mans job to try and coral that and circle it with this status and parents acting like they.. want to keep them as kids. they are people and can make babies and digest pleasure just like any adult.. all this stuff about.. they are not emotionally mature.. God thought they are..or they would not be able to reproduce... and no one at any age.. can master sexual motivation and the feelings that are created in sexual activity.. so this bS line is just that BS.

  • That teenager should not get a year in jail for having sex with his girlfriend, that is just stupid. That girls dad should be the one getting in trouble. I can see how you might be mad if you were to discover your daughter had had sex, but you don't find the kid she did it with and beat him! I mean, COME ON!

  • ohhh!!How stupid the father is,I guess...oh come on just accept the fact that her daughter is in her adolescence stage and I think it is normal to feel that way.and it is really unfair for the boyfriend.Why did not ask the girlfriend if she was forced to do sex?

    and dating between 14 and 35 is not wrong.it is our own free will.ei, age does not matter....and love is for everyone otherwise none at all
