saggin didnt originate in the prision system.

Sagging shouldn't be illegal. As a designer, I feel its the only way good underwear design can be seen and enjoyed. Where else you gonna see the new Boxer Joe line outside of the store or bedroom?

It will start with the ban on sagging pants, and then it will go to no oversized shirts or sneakers that promote any kind of name brand or any other item of clothing allows freedom of expression.

In the 1990s, it was the battle of high schools and middle schools around the US to keep pants from saggin' and keep the daisy dukes from being too short. It's interesting to see that this has moved into the civic sphere.

I went to high school In Virginia and what you could wear to school was a subject often talked about. In my experience it wasnt the men getting sent home for baggy jeans it was the women going home for wearing booty shorts and a tank top.

who really cares?? let young people dress how they want, you only fuel their desire to piss you off when you tell them how to look.

It's silly to pass a law against baggy pants...and it's also silly to wear your pants like that.
Some folks need to loosen their sphincters; other folks need to tighten their belts.

Personally, it's not my style. However, who am I to tell someone that if they wear their pants in a certain fashion that they'll have to face a warning, a fine, or even jail time? If you wish to wear your pants that way, I can't stop you, and neither can any governmental body.

you know what - i just dont want to see your underwear - and if you are young and have a cute rear why wouldn't you want to show it off?

    Neghie,

True, the slippery slope is most unforgiving. Women already face a draconian culture with regards to freedom of expression: rape is still widely considered justifiable if the woman targeted is dressed "inappropriately," allowing purely aggressive anti-female violence (self-defense not a motive). One need not go to Iran to see the "moral" police state in action: verdict first, trial later.

I feel quite safe around young men who wear their pants with the waist around their thighs and the crotch at the level of their knees... I can easily out-walk them even though I have to use a walking stick!

This issue made it all the way to Dallas City Hall recently. One councilman proposed a bill that would make it a criminal offense to wear saggy pants within Dallas City Limits, punishable by a $50 fine. Specifically, if your undergarments were showing, you would be ticketed. Believe it or not, the majority of those showing public support for the bill were african americans aiming to improve the image of their race. After about a month of pushing though, the bill was repealed on the "it looked good on paper" clause. While the council agreed it was a good idea, the police cited that quality enforcement would be next to impossible and that the DPD have much bigger fish to fry right now than some exposed boxers. It is rumored that a resolution will be presented to the council that discourages the practice, but as of now, no concrete policy is in place against it.

Most definitely a threat. Depending on the size of the person and the degree of bagginess, you could hide an entire Al Qaeda sleeper cell in there. And if the pants are tight? No place to hide. No brainer.

I used to sag my pants and after years of being skateboarder, the fact that I was a skateboarder was my excuse or rationale on it. Once my mother told me that I wasn't going to have babies if I kept wearing my pants like that. Now I wear very nice pants that fit very flatteringly. To be honest looking back on it, it just looks ridiculous and makes you walk funny. Plus it makes it seem as you were carrying a montrous shit around too. I really can't remember why I even used to do it. Although as dumb as I think it looks it shouldn't be regulated or illegal. Even though some people could probably smuggle plenty of whatever they want. Why is this even an issue anyway?

If women walked around with their underpants and asses hanging out of their pants, they would be arrested for indecent exposure. Guys; pull your pants up! No one WANTS to see what kind of under-roos you're wearing...truly, we don't...and if we want to see your ass, we'll let you know.

I don't know if it is a threat to national security, but cities do have a reason to be concerned.

This behavior is a mimic of those who are in prison and can't have belts, so their pants sag down.

Is this what we want our youth to reach for? Is prison attendance the goal that they should set for themselves? I do suppose that if they wear their pants falling down it will make the change to a prison environment easier. But again, can't we expect more? Maybe if the youth respect their body and clothe it properly they will begin to respect themselves.

The saggy pants are a symptom of the problem; it is a quality of life issue and a self esteem issue. Do you ever see wealthy people wearing saggy pants in their day-to-day life?

    I haven't.

The sagging of your pants isn't a crime. I live in a small city near los angeles and here it isn't focused on african americans as much as it is for mexicans. My cousin sags his pants and for that our family makes fun of him for it or asks him questions like if he's part of gang and why doesn't he have respect for anything. It's kind of hilarious and yet stupid at the same time how people judge others from their apperence. Sagging your pant is just how someone dresses and seems comfortable. Some people feel comfortable in jean and others wearing skirts or sweats and this is no different. This is ridiculous, it's like if we said that wearing I don't know polka dotted ties are related to violence because a gang decided to wear them. This is just another attempt to focus on something that shouldn't get the attention so that the real conflict is put aside.

I refuse to believe that pants hanging around your knees that you have to hold up with one hand is "comfortable." I have seen so many guys trip and fall because their pants were too baggy. THAT sure didn't look "cool." They looked stupid and, like most clowns, were laughed at. They, on the other hand, did not laugh back. They seemed angry. I made a powerpoint presentation for my sixth grade students that compared the sagging look with clothes that fit. People do judge you (and always will) on your appearance. No matter how intelligent a person who looks a mess really is, no one will think so. Therefore, he won't get the chance to prove that he is. And girls don't think the saggy look is cute. So unless guys are looking to date/marry other guys, they need to consider a wardrobe change.

Let's be honest, the parents are the ones that buy this kind of stuff because they want thier kids to look cool. Then they drop them off at school in thier ridiculus outfits on thier way to work to flip burgers in the same damn clothes!!! Spike Lee will tell you,"IMAGE IS EVERYTHING".
