The Good News: George Lucas has told the LA Times that he's "just begun work" on a live action Star Wars spin-off for TV.
The Bad News: It won't feature major characters like Luke Skywalker or Darth Vader.

Yay! Boo! Yay!

    • And just make the series availabe online for free... no TV networks needed when you've got the biggest brand in the universe. I don't know, something about watching TV on the computer is just lame to me still. Not sure how many "normal" people have their computer jacked up into their LCD TVs yet.

    • or it could be the nail in the Star Wars coffin. I'm betting on the nail. A TV show is only as good as its writing/ characters and Star Wars isn't really known for either. I guess procedurals don't have strong characters.... CSI Coruscant? "These blast points - too accurate for Sandpeople. Only Imperial Stormtroopers are so precise."

    • I'd like it to be a comedy/variety show, set in the Mos Eisley cantina, with lots and lots of droids and muppet-y aliens. And an Ewok host.

I realize this will never happen.

      But still.

    • development on this has been rumored for at least a year and a half, but this is the most concrete thing i've seen. if he doesn't write it, it could be good. and if the TV development system works as it should, then something bad won't get on the air (optimism?). can anybody find that standup bit brian posehn did in Comedians of Comedy about the prequels? i searched but came up with nothin. it was great.

    • like Britney, and Lyndsey, George needs someone around him brave enough to say "ya know, that idea really sucks".

    • Jar Jar Binks got a lot of focus in the prequels but he'll always be a minor character to me (classic denial really).
I reckon if they get a great team of writers in and the TV series are a success, the minor characters will be household names and an important part of the Star Wars history in no time. If the TV series is rubbish though, or the characters don't go down well with die-hard Star Wars fans, most people could choose to focus on the films and try to forget about the TV show, in the same way I separate the classic three and the prequels.

    • The article says the show will focus on minor characters. So...by focusing on them, they are no longer minor, right? Wonder how that will pull focus in the movies?
