Inspired by a photograph of a grocery-cart-modded bike posted online, Ryan McFarland decided to build his own. As the co-owner of the only bike shop in Petersburg, Alaska, he had access to plenty of tools and parts to build his Cart Bike.

An Electra Townie is my main transportation. I can fit $40 of groceries slung from the handlebars and in the basket. This innovation is an upgrade on the old 'butcher's bike', and it looks great to me. It could benefit from a unifying paint job, but there is a market for it, for those without cars and not quite so adventurous (or as young). A canvas cover would be nice to keep the wind & weather off the cargo.
Would this be more stable than the child trailers for bicyclists?
A sad thought, but think how it would transform the lives of the homeless as they plod along behind their grocery carts containing all of their worldly goods. -
