um.
the who and the what, now? -
I'd say BuzzMe.com is in "pre-pre-alpha".
And you didn't mention that BuzzMe will be built with Ajax and have a public API.-

The new Lobby-ists at Web 2.0The cool thing to do these days at Web 2.0 is to hang in the lobby, (with or without a badge apparently).

I'm pretty sick of everything being in "beta"...that get's old
does "blogosphere" count in this case? 'Cause that's dumb, too. -
I like the concept of web 2.0 (otherwise I wouldn't be here) but I hate the lingo. Keep in mind that programmers, geeks, and nerds are not marketing or literary inclined people. Normally. Also isn't it technically web 3.0? The early networks of the 80's and 90's was more web 1.0, while the late 90's and early 2000's was web 2.0 with the release of broadband and more dynamic web content, namely video. Web 3.0 is what we have now as it is now more end user generated content thanks to faster broadband speeds and better compression.
My hated terms but I like the technology are:
*Microblogging.
*vblog.
*blog. I'm iffy on this. While blog is bad, so is web log. What happened to journal? Diary? .plan? All of these terms are horrible.
*Folksonomy. Really? That's the best you can come up with? Did the word tagging not do it for you? Did it kill your cat or something?
*Wiki. Technically this is a web 1.5(?) term since it first came into existence on March 25, 1995 at c2.com.
*User-centered design. All designs on all products are about the end user since they ultimately use the product.
*Widgets. Another stupid name but really cool concept. I just haven't seen any good widgets that I really need.
*Social software. Very over rated. How MySpace sold for $580 million I'll never know.
*Video podcast (Videocasting). Another good concept and nicely implemented here but I hate the term.
*podcast(ing). If it wasn't for this horrible term I never would have the www.GamersWithJobs.com Conference Call.
*Perpetual Beta. The never ending excuse for accepting responsibility for shoddy coding.
*convergence. Love the concept hate the implementation. Is it so hard to get cell phone/pda/web tablet/game system/GPS/DVR/PMP/UMPC/IM'er without it costing the national GDP of a small nation?
*UMTS. Honestly? I'm indifferent.
*XHTML. XTREME HTML. Buy buy buy!
My loved terms and concepts are:
*RSS/Aggregator. Feeds are a god send. No more having to visit fifty or more sites. Now everything is thrown into my RSS reader (Google Reader). From my 78 subscriptions, over the last 30 days I've read 16,916 items, starred 1 items, shared 0 items, and emailed 1 items.
*CSS. Managing a website has never been easier.
*OpenAPI. Everyone wins!
These are just the terms that I remember off the top of my head!
As more businessess embrace the web as a platform and utilise its strengths, the horrible mash ups of terms will continue to haunt this crotchety geek. Might as well get used to it. It isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
If you have any questions or comments to my post, or if you just need explanations about anything web 2.0 feel free to ask.-

Great clip. I'd submit "super hive", "meta collective", "trans-meme" as the next candidates :)

Thanks ;) I'm actually involved in a web 2.0 startup called painstats.com and I've been trying very hard to avoid the "Synergistic Terms" in our marketing as much as possible :) They get used so much nowadays that it just becomes "Social Network White Noise".

Oh Chloe, please, that was brilliant. I should have showed that to my students today as a self-spoof.
