Waterboarding continues to be a controversial issue. For an in depth and hands on look into the issue, check out this pod I produced with Mitch Koss. This was the summer of 2006, but the issue remains contentious and relevant today, as the Attorney General hearings demonstrate.

Kaj,
I think this is a fascinating topic especially being in the final stages of the Marine Air pipeline, knowing I may experience this in a few months at SERE school. It's ironic that while this form of "torture" is "offficially" unacceptable on the floors of Congress it's accepted as part of the SERE ciriculum? or so I understand. I'm a bit skeptical as to how effective the actual torture and confinement aspect of SERE training is in protecting national security. I'd be curious to know how much "actionable" intel the CIA or others get using these methods vice others; however this I will probably never know. Clearly the escape and evasion has been proven to pay dividends for high risk operators but the rest I will just need to experience in SERE training to weigh in on.
