that's what I've spent in cash so far today. I literally can't imagine living on less than $1 a day...but that's what about 3 billion other people do, every day of their lives.

Fantastic way to put things into perspective Holly...that really got me thinking--

Great idea, brilliant methodology.

This makes no sense when you take into account the real meaning of that study.
3 billion people, ..i would bet that 99% of those 3 billion people they are referring to are living in countries where a dollar goes much much farther than it does in the US. In many countries $1 will buy you the same goods as $23.95 will get you in this country. I spent a summer in Egypt and lived very nicely on $100 per month. A meal at a restaurant would normally cost about $1.50. In these countries many people don't even need money as they trade goods w/ neighbors. (i.e. I have cow's and can trade my milk for your vegetables...etc).
This study has real no meaning, and your example of spending $23.95 doesnt' really put anything in perspective. -Yeah it sounds nice on the surface, but look into this further and you'll see that it's comparing apples to oranges.
silly study in my opinion. -
If you are trying to show how sad it is to live on less than a dollar a day you can stop because there is already a far more convincing video that will motivate people more out there.

So there are countries were $1 (or the local currency equivalent of $1 US) will buy what $23.95 in the US will buy? Where? Anybody who has ever spent time in a "developing" country will understand immediately how badly their citizens live. Indeed there's no real comparison between a first-world lifestyle and a third-world one, and quibbling over exchange rates doesn't advance the discussion one bit.
