There's no excuse for bypassing the Constitution and the FiSA courts. There's no excuse for approving the current wiretap bill...Democrats.

  • If you do not have anything to hide what is the problem?

What is the difference between a search warrant? If police have the suspicion that you have committed a crime they can get a search warrant and have a hay day on your residence.

In these days of global terrorism I believe this is a very good thing. What terrorist attacks have you heard happen in America since 9-11? I have only heard terrorist plots that have been caught and broken up before they could happen. Would this be possible without government eavesdropping ? I highly doubt it.

  • Fortunately, "those who have nothing to hide have nothing to fear" is not one of this nation's guiding principles. "Freedom from fear" is. Unwarranted searches - like the kind that were being performed when this program was first disclosed back in late 2005 - don't just produce fear of government; they violate the 4th amendment.

If the police have suspicion that I have committed a crime, then they HAVE to get a search warrant. It's a legal device designed to enforce the 4th amendment, and it's a powerful check on government intrusion. Without legal, court-approved search warrants, we set ourselves up for the same kind of political oppression we're witnessing in Myanmar.

The fact that there have been no terrorist attacks since 9/11 proves nothing. It's tempting to think that "homeland security" has thwarted numerous attacks, but it can never be proven or known. If you really want to see how safe we are from disaster, check out New Orleans.

To quote Supreme Court justice Potter Stewart, "The 4th Amendment and the personal rights it secures have a long history. At the very core stands the right of a man to retreat into his own home and there be free from unreasonable governmental intrusion."
