Not surprising that publishers are asking for it, again. How much longer will there be a console market? Or is that Internet thing the solution.

I don't know -- when you think about the breakout hits of the last few years (the Nintendo DS, the Wii) they're precisely the platforms that are the LEAST "standard" -- instead they're the ones that introduce bizarre new displays or interfaces. I guess it's conceivable that standardization could maintain wiggle-room for innovation... but I sorta doubt it.

This is hard to say I'd like to think that competition is usually good in this case (see Apple vs. Microsoft), but I can see the challenges for gamers and consumers. For those reasons, however, I don't see this going away aren't there lots of people out there with an XBox, PlayStation and Nintendo Wii? There is bank to be made.

Consoles still have their advantages that PC just don't have.
For example: consoles games just work as advertised. No need for upgrades (usually).
