Is Al Gore Testing Us?

I posted this over at dKos, but was suggested if it was posted here, it would be more likely that VP Gore would read it. So here is hoping.

So I want to pose this question. Is Al Gore testing us? My wife gave me as a birthday present Al Gore's recent book, The Assault on Reason. I've heard Randi Rhodes talk about many times, even saying we should all read it this summer. Well, the summer passed, and I hadn't moved my butt. I've got a good reason, I was busy writing my thesis. And if my advisor happens to read this diary, aren't you happy that is over? I am.

Anyhow, on a recent trip, I was able to read a large portion of the book. I found myself captivated. None of what Al Gore said about the Bush administration was really new news to me, but to see it all there .. all 7 years worth of this Bush-crapola was .. in the least, nauseating.

But then Al Gore would always draw these great analogies from non-political things (including Newton's third law of motion) and parallels from the past. And he would say what we need to do better. But I kept thinking, while reading his book, why isn't he running.

But then Al Gore would always draw these great analogies from non-political things (including Newton's third law of motion) and parallels from the past. And he would say what we need to do better. But I kept thinking, while reading his book, why isn't he running. Follow me below for more.

So he talks about TV and how it is a one way medium .. information comes out, but we can't respond. And how the media has be driven to the 30 second sound bite. I felt this might have been a little self analysis at his 2000 campaign and at Kerry in 2004 .. neither could really master the sound bite quite as well as Bush. But then again, Bush was a one trick pony .. scare people and that is enough to grab their attention.

One part of his book that struck me is how he says that democracy breaks down when those in power are rich .. because only the rich and afford to get their message out there. So this made me wonder, is Al Gore testing us? He doesn't have to be out there on the road telling people he is for this or that and maybe even have a out-of-place makaka moment (probably not that bad, maybe more like a Kerry botched joke moment).

Anyhow, so here we all are. We read the book. Agree with it. Talk to others about it. Form organizations to support him. All this, and he doesn't have to do a thing. He jumps in, and says look .. I'm not here because I'm rich, but because the people support me. No special interest groups like big pharma. I'm here because some quarter of a million people (that is http://www.draftgore.org on line petition plus their paper form which I've read collected about 50,000 people as of a few days ago) really want me to be here.

The more I read his book, the more I feel he is saying this. To use a phrase he uses from Sir Author Conan Doyle .. Al Gore really seems to be the "dog that does not bark." That is, his silence is speaking volumes. But of course, have we understood his message correctly. And my limitation of being a mere (biased) human says, I could be all wrong. But I certainly hope not.

Say something Al! Speak!!

I find this very interesting because I am also hoping that AL Gore will enter the race. I think he is the only one with the answers on how to clean up the mess that is now our government as well as, clean up the earth.

Oh, I really, really hope so! He's probably the only person who can conceivably tackle all the problems we're facing, starting with global warming and fixing the constitution. I mean, whoever comes next will inherit the near-omnipotent powers of the executive, and I don't think anyone besides Mr. Gore would be able to give them back to the other branches without a fight.

I'm waiting, too. Thanks for posting this here.

Mr. Gore, your destiny is calling!

I'm migrating over here for the very same reason. As I've said, I think Al Gore is testing us in the sense that support really needs to come from the grassroots. Well, we're here are Al, thousands of us, and we're ready to support you in putting this country in the place that you've described so briliiantly.

George W. has scared the shit out of me for the past several years. The thing that I have found that conquers my fears is the thought that Al Gore will run in '08 and save America.
September, 2005 I read and article at buzzflash.com and saved it for when I start to lose hope that he will run. I'm going to post it here in hopes he read this and fly in to save us from this nightmare.

    Al Gore

In 2000, George W. Bush told the voters that the man who would be responsible, accountable, honest and bring transparency and moral accountability to the Oval Office should be elected -- and he was. Al Gore won the vote of 540,000 more Americans than Bush and Gore won the votes of the most Floridians.
The world would be a far better place today -- absent the parasitic, malignant leadership known as Bushevism -- if a partisan majority of the Supreme Court hadn't stolen the election from the decision of the American people.
But that is not why a BuzzFlash reader nominated Al Gore for the BuzzFlash "Wings of Justice Award." Quietly and quickly, Gore privately rented two planes to evacuate sick patients from hospitals the federal government had abandoned in New Orleans. Without fanfare, without PR consultants, without the news media in tow, Gore arrived with the planes to personally escort the victims in need to safety in Nashville, where he had secured medical services for them. He wanted no kudos; he just wanted to save fellow Americans from dying.
Gore, who clearly went through some post-2000 soul searching and came out the political Jeremiah of our times, would beat just about any ex-president in recent history when it comes to his commitment to the preservation of democracy and his concern for the future of America and the planet.
Of course, many of Gore's brilliant pleas to change the catastrophic policies of the Bush administration wouldn't be necessary if he were sitting in the White House today. But Gore isn't engaging in a grudge match. He's just a man driven to do the right thing for his country and his fellow Americans, as he did as anonymously as he could for some 270 critically needy residents of New Orleans.
For that, Al Gore you merit the BuzzFlash "Wings of Justice Award." You are a man of good deeds, not just good words.

I have tried to post the Wings of Justice link and for some reason I have been unsuccessful. If anyone can post it, I would greatly appeciate it. I was trying to request he fly in and rescue us from this nightmare.

I too am in the middle of reading this important document and agree wholeheartedly! I too get the feeling he is speaking to us and trusting us to insist on his leadership. A mandate is what is necessary and this is a great way to get it in a way that honors the true meaning of our democracy!

    Run Al Run!!!!

Don't you think all this talk of SAVE US AL GORE is perhaps putting too much on one man's shoulders ? I naturally want Mr. Gore to be our advocate, our planet's advocate in the White House ... but when it comes right down to it, it's up to US to save ourselves. President Gore would be a mighty powerful ally, but it's up to each one of us to do our part of the heavy lifting. The more people we can convince to help with the lifting, the easier the job will be. But again, it's up to ALL OF US, working together ( which I think is Al's main point ). That said, it sure would be nice to have a strong leader bringing together our country AND the World to fight this catastrophic fix we find ourselves in. So yes ... come on in Al Gore ... the water's nice !

He IS testing us! He wants to find out How much we love Democracy and how much we know about Democracy. He said: The problem with the political system is that it's so mortgaged to self-interested lobbies that the rules of logic and reason no longer apply. We have to build a grassroots movement to make changes." He's hoping we'll form a huge, broad-based grassroots movement to put him in the White House so he can be a prime mover to make the changes we all want. But he can't ask us to do that. In fact, he can only do what he is doing: say he's not running but he hasn't ruled it out. It's like asking someone to tell you they love you: even if they do tell you, you always wonder if it's true. A grassroots movement to support your presidency is not, like love, something you can ask for but something you receive, unbidden, because you've earned it and are deserving. There's no one on this planet, let alone the United States, more deserving than Al Gore. So, come on people! Let's hear your voices! Let's exercise our freedoms (or what we have left of them) and build this huge grassroots movement in support of Al Gore for president. A movement so huge no one can ignore it!
