That's an interesting point why not take out the American West via forest fires? They've taken us by surprise before. But is confiscating my matches on the plane really gonna help?

Being from So Cal- fires happen all the time. Some are accidental some are on purpose, but either way I don't think that this could be a terrorist sort of thing.
The crazy thing with this story is that it's just burning up and they only have it 30% controlled... keep up the hard work firefighters-

yeah, no doubt (!) on the shout out to the firefighters. i lived in sd during the cedar fire, and it was soooo eerie. it was like a huge blanket; a horizontal layer of thick, reddish-brown smoke stretching across the sky, way up in the atmosphere, too.
ashes coated everything for days and many were coughing/having reactions (especially folks with asthma, old folks, etc.). the air didn't clear for more the a week. it didn't matter if all your windows were closed; you couldn't escape the acrid smoke that permeated hundreds of miles/kilometers.
the sun was behind the clouds, but it was piercing through and you could stare at it with your eyes. ad mid-day, it looked like a pale, yellow/orange moon. unfortunately, ozzy wasn't barking; it was the sound of horses, pets and people that were burning alive.
right now im just hoping that those of you who had to evacuate, those of you still fleeing, (including your pets & the zoo animals), and the firefighters or other kind-hearted folks trying to help you get out, are soon safe.
