If he runs, wont his efforts to win one for humanity be misconstrued as an agenda to strengthen the Democratic party? wont then the pundits attack and the message be lost?

ONE THING is for sure:

If Al Gore truly believes he is doing more good for the world by NOT being President, then I will believe him. I trust the man's judgement and I know he'll do what's best for the world.

But we have to show our support.

  • Just one of the many reasons Gore should not run. As a Democrat. Jesus, better to wear a dead fish around your neck for the duration of the election than declare yourself a Democrat. 11% approval rating for the Dem led Congress. Do they deserve even that?

Now, Gore running as an Independent...

  • So let's see, where can he accomplish more?? Umm....the presidency. He said himself, "I’m under no illusion that there’s any position in the world as influential as that of president." Is your major concern what the pundits will say or standing up and solving the climate & governmental crises in America? I prefer to focus on important issues, not worrying about whether or not some talking heads on the news will spin and laugh at lies they make up. Come on, let's become the informed citizenry that makes for a strong country, not a citizenry based on the whims of grins and giggles on TV, while our planet heats rapidly by the wayside.

  • An informed citizenry? I'm not going to deny it would be nice. But there's such nice television these days, isn't there? A distracted (and fearful) citizenry is a compliant one and the media is lining up its sights on Gore as much now as in 2000. Anyone that wants Gore to win in 08 (and he'll run, as an independent) better help him out with a veritable landslide of bipartisan media attacks making him out to be a liar, a fool or worse.

  • well, if youSenseChange, then turn the damned teevee off, or change the channel. Get your news online, watch currenttv and public television. Support progressive radio.

You know, if we really want change, we have to make it happen and quit being afraid of what the pundits will say. For crying out loud, let's make them not relevant! I wrote to Joe Scarborough this week to tell him I wouldn't be watching him anymore because he said 90% of Americans support torture! What a crock.

If they only understand the power of the purse, then find out who advertises on their stations and don't support those businesses anymore. Look around for local businesses to support. They're there, trying to hang on.

As for your post, I was disappointed that you stated "I am not sure anymore." If you're not, then get out of the way, because many of us do and will do whatever it takes to make it happen.

America needs a true leader now more than any other time in its history, if we are to Save America and Save the World! Al Gore is that leader.

    I love the banner!

  • I get my news from a variety of sources, first and foremost online. I don't watch the news, I monitor it, almost obsessively. I've written letters to CNN involving what they choose to cover and not cover (I don't monitor Fox, i can't, it makes me crazy and cynical to the point my own dog can't stand me).You don't have to worry about me keeping myself informed, believe me, I'm on it. It's the overwhelming bulk of your citizenry that you (and Gore) have to worry about.

*As for the idea of making the conventional media "not relevant" well, I couldn't agree more. Or at the very least make them the fourth estate they're supposed to be, the mechanism that informs the citizenry and thereby facilitates Reason within a society. But, given that bold words are meaningless without actions, what's your plan of action on this? How's it work? What's the first step and how can I help?

*I'm not against you here and I'm certainly not against Gore. What you, and all Gore supporters need to be fully aware of is that the greatest obstacle in the way of his presidency remains the media. I watched some chowderhead on CNN trot out the old "invented the internet" line they day after he won the Nobel. Which means they're totally prepared to pull the same stunt again. What's the plan of action on that?

*It wasn't my post that said "I'm not sure anymore." I've never been more certain. As it becomes clear that America's only two political parties have no interest in any sort of significant change, it also becomes clear that the whole world needs Gore to win in '08.

  • Puleaze!!! "The message" !?! Actions are the only thing that matter. Talk is cheap. The man needs to stand up and do what he's asked the rest of us to do, take responsibility. He is the leader, so why's he hemming and hawing about not running? As soon as California certifies the signitures they've been collecting, Gore will be an official candidate. I'll vote for him, given the chance. I WON'T vote for Hillary.

  • Gore's been standing up for a long time, GnS, and taking on all comers. He's as much of an american hero as you'll ever get. Show the man a little respect.

As far as your timeline for Gore running: Why on earth would Gore announce right now? Why not let both sides mudball it out, elect it's champions and then announce as an independent? And why on earth would he announce as a Democrat in this day and age, in the most divided time in american history and when the people (understandably) use the term "Democrat" and "Capitulation" as synonyms? Independent is the way to go, that's Change, babuh.

  • There would be no better person to be President Than our own Al Gore. There would be no better platform than being President for Al Gore to lead, repair, and make the changes we all need. This is not a local issue any more, this is truly a global issue. We need a global leader. Once we have a true leader, the others will fall in place.

  • Gore is the BEST MAN for the job as President. He could heal with other world leaders and He is the most qualitifed for the office. Hillary might have been the "first" lady but Gore worked in the White House and already won the election It is his turn to be PRESIDENT...

  • They're attacking now, so I don't see how Gore being president would make that particular matter any worse.

Frankly, by being president, I think Gore will be in a much better position to move policy in the direction that is needed.

Furthermore, although we have a climate crisis, there are many other very serious problems that Al Gore is much better prepared to address.

  • "Drafts dont happen in America" ?
To whoever posted that tag, read up on American draft movements here.

  • iSC, independents are spoilers, they have no "party machine" to rely on in the presidential race, they've never won an election, AND the man is a Democrat. Independents will never be the way to go unless and until our country adopts a multi-party system, which means doing away with the electoral college and winner take all rules. The electoral college can only be changed with a Constitutional amendment. Better get crackin' on that!

  • We do this despite media, don't we? I haven't had a tv for six years, and I don't miss it a bit! Who needs Faux and other MSM spin when you can get all the news on the web from multiple sources? Disintermediation. heh.
