Broccoli and other varieties of cabbage (but especially broccoli) have long been known to help prevent cancer and even reduce prostate cancer tumors when eaten in combination with tomatoes. The most effective way of eating broccoli to prevent and fight against cancer is broccoli sprouts, but it is imperative that one gets organic broccoli seeds (i.e. seeds which have not been treated with fungicides) for sprouting.
On the other hand, a popular "health food" oil has the opposite effect - safflower oil stimulates cell-division and growth, it is a cancer promoter and should be avoided.
A side-note - George Herbert Walker Bush viscerally hates broccoli and has always refused to eat any. Significantly, he has in the past developed Actinic Keratoses (a condition that can easily turn into squamous cell carcinoma of the skin) on his face, and had to have these little tumours removed.
