"The peak of world oil production, long predicted by Houston geo-physicist M. King Hubbert, is here. A recent study for the German-based Energy Watch Group states that oil production has peaked and predicts production continuing to fall by 50% by the year 2030. It's a graphic picture of 'extreme shortages" leading to wars and social breakdown."

Excellent post by the Existentialist Cowboy whose blog I can only highly recommend.

    • Thanks for this, Verotchka! The American press will never report this, because they've got their heads stuck up Bush's ass, but oil peak is already upon us. It's time for our leaders to stop talking about war and start talking about renewable energy. I will never vote for anyone who don't make renewables a top priority.

    • I don't think the planet can handle us using all of the oil. I think that some of the oil will have to be left in the ground. We need a paradigm shift away from oil. Is it significant that we've passed peak oil? Yes, and we already know the war part is true. Oil prices will have to rise steeply. We should be paying much more for oil. I believe the ultimate cost, the destruction and rape of our planet will require that we don't use all the oil.

    • I heard Hunter Lovins speak recently, and she buys the theory that we hit the peak in 2005. She expects oil to hit $200/barrel within a year. Sell your gas guzzler now, and buy a horse.
