This week, Penn State students will be walking around campus with empty holsters in order to protest a gun ban on campus. According to PSU policies, firearms of any kind as well as bow and arrows, knives larger than a pocket knife and even nunchucks are prohibited on campus.

Why do you even need a gun on campus?

To me this should be an example of innocent until proven guilty. If a person has a legally owned gun (or other weapon), what is the reason they can't carry it?

The NRA spends millions every year on PR and advertising companies that create these websites and orchestrates these events.
Keep in mind the reason almost everyone spends money on guns is FEAR. The NRA has to feed the flames of fear continuously or the flame goes out and people buy IPODS instead.
If you look at the [NRA] http://concealedcampus.org/ website you will see all the signs of an elaborate multi-million dollar campaign with great attention to detail- like how they stress if your holster has a top flap, you have to fix it open somehow. (So nobody thinks you have a gun and shoots you with their concealed weapon so they can get on TV for being the hero that shot a crazed student before he could hurt anyone.) Bad press is bad for investors.-

" I say, let's take every one of these gun advocates and give them some "Quality Time" on the couch in a
Psychiatrist's Office."
I nominate you for the position Director of Ministry of Truth. -
My name is Scott Lewis. I am the media coordinator for Students for Concealed Carry on Campus. I wrote most of the documents included on SCCC's website. If Greg Thomas or anyone else can show that, as of today, November 30, 2007, SCCC has EVER received ANY financial support WHATSOEVER from the NRA, I will personally donate $20,000 and all of my privately owned firearms to the anti-gun/gun control advocacy organization of his or her choosing.

As an organizer of Students for Concealed Carry on Campus, I must say, I am extremely flattered that you think we accept millions from a national organization like the NRA. We must be doing something right. Scott has spent weeks and months developing that website, and has received no compensation for it. We are doing this "pro bono" because its something we believe in, not because a bureaucrat wants us to.

You are too easily flattered. I said the NRA spends millions every year on PR and advertising companies that create these websites and orchestrates these events. The PR companies deserve the credit for making such a provocative website with statements like:
"Numerous studies show that concealed handgun license holders are five times less likely than non-license holders to commit violent crimes."
But wait- If most concealed handgun license holders are good citizens, shouldn't the figure be more like 95%? Apparently quite a few licensed handgun users have a little trouble avoiding violent crime.-

But, Greg, the credit for that statement doesn't go to a million dollar PR firm; it goes to a bunch of college students, college faculty members, parents of college students, and concerned citizens doing research on their own time and operating on their own dime. So why shouldn't one of our organizers be flattered that you suggested our meager efforts resemble a multi-million dollar campaign by the NRA?
As for your "95%" comment, I must assume that math isn't your strong suit. Percentages and rates aren't interchangeable.
I assume you were trying to say something to the effect that, despite the low rate, violent crimes are still committed, on rare occasions, by concealed handgun license holders. And that's true. About 0.02% of violent crimes in shall-issue states are committed by members of the 1% of the population with concealed handgun licenses. That means that the violent crime rate among CHL holders is even lower than the violent crime rate among police officers, in most states. So, Greg, please explain how, under your warped sense of logic, those statistics dictate that concealed handgun licenses are contributing to violent crime and should, therefore, be abolished.-

Arguing with ignorance amazes me every time. This is no longer about the issue, but where the ideas for quotes on our website came from.
