  • You are correct, but what are your specific plans help bring about the change?
    racinghound
  • We do need to start making big changes, both on individual and institutional levels, and we need a government that is willing to lead that effort.

  • Obama is a Current user?! I want to see Mitt Romney here, too.
    For the sake of balance.

Anyway, you were right about the war like Gore or Dean.
And you don't get credit for it from most of the Dem voters.
They instead support someone who not only was dead wrong but now promotes a total BS story about why she voted for the IWR.

This is why it's not worth to be ahead of the curve in politics. Voters preach about good judgement and principles and boldness all the time. But in reality
when someone is indeed bold and has good judgement and dares to defy the conventional wisdom they just don't care or worse.

Most voters will never acknowledge that they were wrong and a politician was right. Most voters are hypocrites and are just full of themselves.

    What a shame.

I still hope you will win the nomination. But with these kind of voters I don't hold my breath.

  • I'm holding my breath, crossing my fingers, throwing coins into fountains, looking out for falling stars...Obama for president, please.

  • This is the understanding, clarity, and conviction that this country needs in a president and this world needs in our leaders. Go Barack!
    ClayHV
  • Yes, we do know all this already. Somehow, though, this just seems like more talk. Where's the plan? Am I missing something?
    covelogibbs
  • None of the candidates (including Obama) have presented any solid plan with specific actions to which they are committed. It will take exceptional leadership and determination to move this country forward on climate change and its consequences. In my opinion, Al Gore is the only leader who has demonstrated that he possesses all of these characteristics.

  • Senator Obama--please continue to fight the fight. You are the only candidate that can turn this country around. Please ask the citizens of this country to sacrifice for the common good. My parents generation did just that during World War II, it's time this generation did the same. Go Barack!!!!!
    rvaught
  • I like what you're saying Barack and think you will make an excellent president in 2016 after being Vice-President for 8 years with President Al Gore. Please consider it, it's a win-win situation.

  • Fossil fuel dependency seems to be one of the principal causes for global warming and solutions for heating and transportation to reduce fossil fuel dependency, such as hydrogen fuel cells and nanophosphate lithium ion cells, are now already available. The question is how best to create the infrastructure to implement the solutions available. If the presidential candidates would be more specific as to implementation, prospective voters might be that more able to decide which candidate's solution was the better one. There are many solutions and some are very feasible and some are less so. Specificity as to implementation of solutions would certainly be greatly appreciated by all of us prospective voters.

  • I completely agree with you with the minor exception of fueling terrorists by buying oil. We get violent extremism when people feel that they are forced to fight for their survival. If were were to cut off oil and keep a military presence in the Middle East, we would see huge jumps in terrorism because the majority of each nation's economy is dependent on oil.
Please check out my video and respond. I want this website to be a free and open space where everyone is heard even if their camera and mic are terrible.

  • You have tremendous camera presents, you are very articulate and you framed the issue on climate change very well, but what is your plan to correct the issues you raised. Most politician’s can define the issues and point out who’s responsible for the problems, but a good leader will layout a plan and define how it’s going to get done. The country needs good leaders so again I ask where is your plan?

  • The statement “we are helping to fuel both sides of the war on terrorism” has been taken from Thomas Friedman. I love it anyway!

  • Senator, you are a good man, and I have no doubt that you are truly committed to acting responsibly with respect to climate change. What I don't support is your position on "clean coal." Clean coal is an oxymoron. As you know, the automotive fuel that is produced from coal produces much, much more CO2 than regular gasoline. It makes global warming worse. We need to get away from regular gasoline and find cleaner ways of running automobiles, not move the opposite direction and rely on a fuel that is more harmful to the atmosphere than regular gasoline.

I know you will say that there is a carbon sequestration technology that will make this gasoline made from coal about as polluting as regular gasoline and it is better to use domestic coal that foreign oil. But the sequestration technology has never been proven on a large scale. Before you agree to move in this direction, you must ensure that it can be made cleanly. But that's not what you did. You voted to move in the direction of gasoline made from coal without any requirement in the bill that the sequestraion technology be proven and utilized before we push in that direction. Senator, I really think that was irresponsible.

We should not move away from foreign oil on the back of the environment. If you are willing to support this clean coal without the safeguards, then I am afraid that for me, you are not serious enough about really making the hard decisions necessary to deal with climate change.

Senator, you are a good man and I know you want to do the right thing by way of this issue. But please, there is no such thing as clean coal. We need to move in a much different direction if we are to leave this world a livable place for our children. Please reconsider your position on this issue.

  • I hear what you're saying, but what is your plam for getting us out of this routine? You keep talking about our oil-dependence on foriegn nations but never mention what you plan to do and this scares me just a little. Yes, we need to get rid of this dependence on other nations, but we need to do so by ridding ourselves of our dependence on oil all together. Think of it, a world where oil runs out...and now think of it with America already having quit that addiction. Doesn't seem so bad anymore.

  • I hope Obama does something to stop or mitigate global warming. Today. He need not be president to make a difference.
    Ginesdemafra
  • Obama has it mostly right but still avoids the most important political point. Any serious politician must make a firm policy commitment to get us off fossil fuels and into renewable, clean energy production. This is much like going to the moon. We have the need, the motivation, most of the technology and the know how to make it happen. And we can get 90% there in 12 years.

This will bolster the economy by reducing manufacturing costs and most any activity that uses energy (re. all). The environment will become healthier and we would have a new product wanted by everyone to export. This country can be young again.

A presidential commitment as such would restore America's place as a real leader throughout the world and secure us against terrorism.

  • Senator Obama, you know sir if our elected officials really did what we send them to Washington to do, we would not be in the mess we are in. They make a lot of campaign promises when asking for our vote, promises most know they can not keep and for the most part don't give them a second thought once they move into their Congressional offices. If a homemaker ran her kitchen the way some in Congress do their jobs, her family would would never get dinner on time, the farmers would never get a seed planted much less harvested. Poor management, I'd say. And I believe one of the reasons is perpetual campaigning.....

  • Stop. Liquid. Coal. Period. I did a bit of research and it seems that John Edwards has the most convincing policies to fight climate disruption. That's a shame because the rest of your message is spot on.

  • So what are you obama going to do? I did not hear anything about how your personally going to fix it as our president. Are you doing anything about the for. oil? Maybe a prius or a green house? you don't make connections with the general public. you just talk the political talk and it doesn't make the public feel right. Why not try getting in our shoes and know how it really feels. Most Politicians are disliked because they talk like this. Change a little bit and I think the polls will change in your favor

  • The leader on this issue, of course, is Al Gore. But if you don't get out of the race and demand that Al Gore step in, Mr. Obama, the Democratic nomination will go to Hillary Clinton and the presidency to the Republicans. If you care about the environment, you will step down and support Gore.

  • There is a raging debate in this country over whether or not global warming is actually happening. And while I am not a global warming expert, I think this debate is ridiculous. Whether or not you think global warming is real, the fact is that we treat OUR environment like crap. The truth is, the Industrial Revolution which turned many nations such as the US and the UK into economic powerhouses is coming to an end. What they did not know in the late 1700's when the Industrial Revolution started really picking up, was how building factories by the hundreds or thousands and industrializing our modes of production would virtually destroy healthy ecosystems. And now, 300 years later, we've been opening our eyes. I think we need a new Industrial Revolution. A Green Revolution. Just think of how many jobs would be created if the Federal Government stopped spending billions on wars and actually invested in this thing. We'd see thousounds of companies and organizations spring up who focus on alternative energies, sustainable farming, and eco-friendly materials. We're talking about a massive boost to our stagnant economy. We're talking about hundreds of thousands of new jobs that would be created in an industry that's never existed before. We all need to get behind this. For the sake of our nation, our economy, our people, and our world.
  • so what's your plan...gonna keep talking trash or are ya gonna step up and purpose something obama?

  • Dear Senator,
If every citizen stops driving on weekends, and boycott SUV's, large trucks, and cars that are not hybrids, maybe, the car makers will make only hybrids that use ethanol. If every citizen converts their homes to solar energy and go off-grid, and use that energy for electric cars, maybe that will help the fight of global warming.

  • You might get my vote. Ask Ron Paul or Al Gore to be your running mate. Maybe Hillary.
    chromehelmet
  • Yes yes yes--we all agree something has to be done--But why are we waiting on politicians to do it for us?!

People stop driving as much, stop purchasing as much, start recycling, turn off lights, stop eating meat--even if it is one day a week, purchase clothes and household items at a second hand store--make an impact!

It doesn't matter who is voted in for president--Barak or Hillary or Edwards--they are all decent people who sincerely want to do what is right. WE are the ones who have to change--why wait for it to become a law? Do something NOW!! or better yet, stop doing something now!
    maggzilla
  • Obama,

Your view on on this video I agree with in general terms, but you have not mentioned specifics, such as, how will our balance of payments be affected when the oil shieks stop buying our Treasuries? I want a President that understand economics not law. We would accelerate the dollar depreciation. The government bond market would be in a fire sale. Unless the government would consider a more fiscaly responsible course. Are you suggesting shrinking the government in the near - medium term to adjust this shift in low demand for t-bonds? I do not think so, due to your parties platform. Increasing the tax burden with socialized health care will only reduce our citzens take-home income or pass the "bill" for future social discourse by borrowing the money. I and many Gen-Xers are sick of this canned &*(&#*& from our leaders. Get moving and fix the system and stop giving generalities. Our financial well being is depended on this.

By the by, I like the smile. Keep it up. I will expect a response on this message board or your just another %^%#% politician.

We can turn this around ...but it will take a serious mind change and serious tenacity to come together as anation again Home of the Free Land of the Brave. Not The Taxed & watched until our grave.

  • How realistic is all of this 'Change' we keep hearing about?

During last night's democratic debate, Charlie Gibson brought up a very important issue; 'when running for office most candidates make empty promises that they have no intention of ever following through with' so i'd like to know, with all of this talk about 'change', how realistic are the ideas presented. Is there a chance we will actually see change or in 5 yrs are we going to be saying the same things we're currently saying about the last 7 yrs.

  • These are his ideas on Cliimate Change?

Excuse me, we know what the problems are, we didn't need you repeating them, come on, even you have claimed you call Al Gore about every 3 weeks, you had to have remembered some of his ideas. You already said you don't support the Carbon Tax, but you claimed because it would cost more to the consumers, but you should at least have listened to Mr. Gore's full proposal and that is to reduce payroll taxes in exchange for a Carbon Tax, or are your Corporate interests just telling you it would be a bad thing. No dout Exelon, your big Nuclear Energy contributor...to date $250,000.00 I believe, they have contributed to you is pushing you in another direction. Or the Coal Industry, that you were pushing the Lobbyist pushed Liquified Coal Bill Siince April of 2006, where environmentalists were pleading you to stop pushing this horrible tax payer funded Bill that would have added so much Carbon to the air, it would have been like trading in every car for a Hummer. Maybe this is why you can only tell us what we already know.
