Some Santa Fe residents aren't thrilled with the prospect of the New Mexico Rail Runner coming through town. They're worried about the affect on traffic and the prarie dogs.

Rail Runner StabiltyIm not sure it would have such a direct effect on property value; id be a little more concerned about further derailment.

The New Mexico Rail Runner is actually a great project, one I hope gets support from area residents in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and adjacent communities. The rail connection seems to fill a long-term need as population density grows in central and northern New Mexico. Traffic along the I-25 corridor is expected to be increasingly congested, and the NM Rail Runner offers an effective option to make connections between the state capitol and central communities. Amtrak's rail service between Lamy and Albuquerque along the Southwest Chief route lacks an efficiency to support travel to and from Santa Fe for travelers, and can hardly be entertained as an option to local residents and commuters. As for its impact on traffic and prairie dogs? I cannot say, as I haven't read an environmental impact study, but as it is public transportation after all, it should alleviate the interstate with many single occupancy vehicles on the road. As one who lives out of state but enjoys visiting New Mexico, I look forward to making the connection to Santa Fe on the Rail Runner sometime soon.
