It's been circulating this week but if you haven't played with it yet - I'm not entirely sure I'm comfortable being responsible for your addiction. I can't tear myself away and I hate the loss of control. There is something very diabolical about this "Right brain vs. left brain" test you can find here. I don't trust it, and at the same time - I don't trust myself.

Supposedly it works thus: if you see the dancer spinning clock-wise, you are right-brain inclined. If you see her turning counter-clockwise, you're a left-brainer. When I first looked I saw it going counter-clockwise, beyond the shadow of a doubt. It seemed unconscionable that anyone could see it otherwise. But my cubemate saw it going the other way. This drove a wedge between us for many hours yesterday and only this morning did we start relating to each other again.

THEN I asked some other people who had seen the dancer going BOTH ways. Legend had it that she could suddenly switch directions mid-spin when your brain changed its focus.! So I kept staring again, for another few hours, and I SAW IT - she changed direction mid-spin! She would then turn clockwise for a few spins, and then turn back again - and I'd have to sit and wait a few hours more for it to happen again.
I am seriously concerned about what this "Test" really is and why I am so obsessed with it. Is it a form of psychological terrorist warfare? Is the Matrix reaching out to select a few chosen drones to enlighten? Is it all a trick, a conspiracy, the Grassy Knoll, Building 7? I'm falling for it. I'm falling in love. I'm scared, and I'm cold. I feel old. But at least I'm feeling.

a small research sampling from Steven Levitt of Freakonomics fame.

I saw her going clockwise, looked away, and saw her going counter-clockwise. From peripheral vision, she looked like she _might_ be going the other direction, i.e., opposite to the direction she appeared to be going when I looked at her straight on. Freaky! In both cases there was a sense that she could not be seen to be going the other way. I tried, and couldn't make her "change". I'll be interested in reading what Levitt has to say.

She definitely swirled clockwise for the bulk of time that I watched her. But then, very discreetly, she changed directions. Am I a left and a right?

I read both the article about the dancer, and then the explainatory on.... But even if the dancer isn't a good indicator of what kind of a minded person you are, perhaps it reflects on what parts of your mind that you had been using. For example, for me, words are purely visual: they made a picture, a story, an illustration.... when I looked at the dancing figure, she was turning clock-wise... I thought, sure, I'm left handed, of course! But then I decided to count to ten, with my eyes only half fixed on the figure... She Changed to counter-clock wise... then I would start doing something to make her change direction (read or count, with half focused eyes on her), then switch what I was doing as soon as she changed.... she would turn halfway in one direction, then continue in another.... It's fun... I don't care if it tells you what kind of person you are, but it's fun to switch mind functions on control like that.

This whole test is a phoney baloney - it is on a timed schedule - watch it patiently [and with attention]. It changes direction on a timed schedule.
No test of anything other than gullibility,,,,

This is a true test, if you focus on the legs you can trick you mind in to see her spin in the different direction, I got to the point when her leg was going only in front of her and she kept switching spin direction at the will of my mind.

No - it is not. Watch and time it for a while longer.

ok. it is totally rigged. when she is going counterclockwise her right foot is down, and when she is going clockwise her left foot is down. ive been watching it for like 5 minutes, and thats what i come up with. definately weird. and if i let my eyes get all blurry, it is even weirder looking. crazy.

If it's rigged, how do you explain that I've got her doing only half turns? She goes clockwise then I switch her to counter clockwise before she completes the turn then back again. Did they rig that?

I rub my palm to change the direction she is turning, rub left palm and focus on her she is turning clock-wise,
rub my right palm and she begins to turn counter.

At least for the few minutes I sat here, I could switch her back and forth by merely changing the palm I rubbed.

It was as though, through that I was controlling her movement, even though I realize it was my brains perception...all very interesting.

A massive revelation to me, for lack of better terminology this early in the morning...it seems to be a creative thing, the switching back and forth from one side to the other, while it is happening, very strange, if it is'nt a trickie trickster!. Something to ponder, this huge computor we are wearing around on our shoulders, what the heck to do with it all?
