Is our "Contitutionally" guarantted freedoms.

But, how can this be? Our Constitutionally Protected Freedoms are just there so we can feel good about ourselves. Right?

Wrong, Congressional Democrat, we do feel better about ourselves, but there is a practical side to this, as well. Consider this scenario:

***************

Somewhere in the Middle East - A conversation between Ali and his son, Ahmed.

"Dad, I have just decided to be a suicide bomber. The Americans are against all our values and we need to fight them with all our strength."

"But Son, you know the Americans are trying to bring democracy to us. They stand for fairness, the rule of law, decency and freedom. Look at their Constitution!"

Ahmed laughs derisively and takes out photos of Abu Ghraib and the most recent headlines about Blackwater murder of civilians. "Dad, perhaps the USA used to stand for freedom, democracy, and the rule of law, but even at home they have given up. CIA kidnappings, domestic eavesdropping, waterboarding torture, abandonment of Habeas Corpus, war profiteering, cronyism, bribery, and corruption are the hallmarks of the Bush Administration, and the Congress is too cowardly to stand up to them."

"Do you have another explosive vest for me, Ahmed?"

***************

The Moral High Ground is NOT just about feeling good.

It is about fighting terrorists with the most powerful weapons we can muster.
