  • James,

My main suggestion would be, if you want this to be a travel doc, to actually interact with the locals. The issue with what you've done so far is that you are a foreign tourist, so you really don't have the authority to speak about the place, you can react in the field to things you like, but getting some local opinions will make this much stronger. So for example, talk to someone in the town about what the name means instead of stating it in a VO, ask the restaurant owner about the soup instead of telling us about it. That kind of thing will make it much more dynamic, but keep on trying you have a great start and ambition.

  • Thanks for the feedback. I was living with local people in Okinawa for a month, so I got a lot of information through them, plus, I have been doing a lot of independent research. My lack of a cameraman, and limited Japanese skills definitely put a crimp into the kind of stuff I was able to shoot, but I will take your feedback to heart and try and incorporate that into future shoots. In the meantime, please check out the rest of my series on Okinawa. There are so many cool places that I am going to. I haven't even begun to scratch the surface.

  • For the record, I miss the old current tv site. I'm not sure how the new site is an improvement. Could someone explain that to me.

  • My best friend lives near Okinawa and he's always inviting me to visit (like I actually have the time and money)! It seems likes it very beautiful.

  • I am currently an American living in Okinawa with my husband. He is a military contractor working for the Marines. It is funny that I found this site because we were in Okuma last weekend at the Dod(Dept of Defense) recreation facility and I visited all of the places you wrote about. We both have SOFA status so we are allowed on any of the bases and recreation facilities. We stayed at White Beach last weekend and it was lovely as well.
You mentioned not seeing swimmers, Okuma is one of the most famous dive spots in the world.
A lot of people do not swim except on the private beaches because of the coral and ever changing tides and undercurrents.
Thanks for all of your info. Did you see any of the butterflies? They are indiginous to Okuma and they are very beautiful.

    Thanks
