Russing Nikolay Davydenko was just fined $2,000 for apparently not trying hard enough in the St. Petersburg Open by the ATP. I'm wondering if this is ushering in a new era of fining people for not living up to expections on the job. If this is the case, most of the American voting population should do this to politicians and donate all the proceeds to the Children's Insurance bill that Bush is going to veto again.

    • There are certain people I'd like to fine for not living up to my expectations. Wish I could do that. I'd be sorta like a citizen's arrest. I wouldn't charge much - maybe $5, but the point would be made.

    • I think I like this idea. All the money these athletes make, they could spare a few bucks. Why are they making millions of dollars if they're not even going to entertain us with a good match. Talk about being a brat.

    • Tori - the Bonds firing and lack of punishment for not failing a drug test aren't really related.

Personally, I wish all athletes pay was based on performance. I love this idea of fining professional athletes that don't give it their all.

    • Sounds kinda sketchy. Wonder if the Russian mob was in the stands reminding him of his obligations to Mother Russia.

    • complaining that he was "fired", when he was never once punished for his "flaxseed cream". He should be grateful the U.S. doesn't have a policy of fining athletes as well!
