A Portland, Maine middle school is offering up birth control to its students.
Is it okay for schools to provide contraception? Is middle school too young?

Well...If kids are having sex they should be taking the pill. I mean what is worse pregnant middle schoolers or middle schoolers on drugs. Kids have sex, even younger now. At some point we gotta face reality, especially if their parents aren't stopping the sex.
As far as parental permission, I go back and forth. As a parent or future parent I would be like oh hell no! Cuz of course you wanna know what your kids are up to. However, as a former kid, if I couldn't talk to my parents about sex and I was having sex, I would want to be able to protect myself. I always think whatever is best for the kids (which is not having kids) should be done.
However, I think if this is going to happen - BCP without parental permission - they should really keep tract of medical information of the kids so no one dies or gets sick. -
They Just Won't StopSome people just want to do it.

Is it free?
I think it is great for schools to offer birth control in some forms, like condoms, in health classes and other environments like that. I don't think, however, that they should be handing out birth control pills to all the girls and selling condoms in the boys bathrooms.
Very controversial, I like. -
If a sixth grader asked me for a condom because he was going to have sex with someone, and I had some, I'd give him one. Not without a lecture about "Why are you doing this so young?" but I would.
