www.HelpInDisaster.org is a national website registry and educational campaign for volunteers who want to serve before and during times of disaster.
The site is maintained by 1-800-Volunteer.org, a service of The Points of Light Foundation & Volunteer Center National Network. The Points of Light Foundation is a member of the National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster, and is the lead agency responsible for managing unaffiliated volunteers during times of disaster using both web-based tools and leveraging the resources of local Volunteer Centers.
On HelpinDisaster.org, volunteers register their skills and availability and nonprofits that need disaster volunteers can search the database for the skilled volunteers that they need for their recovery effort.
Visitors to HelpInDisaster.org can also learn more about ways they can help in disasters which includes ways to help at home, and what to expect when volunteering in a disaster area.
