Follows the progress of a campaign in Western Massachusetts to place Al Gore on the ballot for the Democratic Party primary. This is an interesting effort, thoroughly grass-roots, being undertaken by some 230 similar groups around the country. With Gore having just won the Nobel Peace Prize, an Oscar earlier in the year, huge international recognition and unencumbered by the negatives attached to the front-runners in the Democratic field, Gore supporters think he represents the best chance for the Democratic Party to capture the White House in 2008.

GO Mass! We are trying to get a group together here in Wisconsin. We need Al Gore. We must get going on climate change at a national level. We need to get our troops home from Iraq. We need a national health. Only Al Gore has answers to these problems. Run Al, Run!
-
Nice video and you guys are doing a great job. All we need now is Al.
-
Well done video. Did you see that Mr. Gore? There are people like this all over the country doing exactly what these good folks are doing. WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR MR. GORE?

Great Job, Massachusetts !!!!!
Al, PLEASE RUN - We are really getting desperate - PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT LET US DOWN !!!! -
Thanks for sharing this video. Al, the people need you, plain and simple. We need Gore in the White House where we voted to place him 7 years ago. Washington State needs even less signatures than Massachusetts. We are going to put him on the WA State ballot and I'm voting for Gore in 2008!

As Gore said back in 2000: "It's the people, not the powerful" who should be in control. And the people want Gore. Many of us just don't want Gore, many of us recognize that we need his leadership in the White House to help set the world agenda for the climate crisis.
We need Gore because without a habitable planet all the other victories on other issues will mean nothing.
fwiw, we're working for Gore in Kansas. -
Oh Al--can't you see that you will win this election if you enter it AND that in being president you will be able to have the greatest impact on addressing global warming? You would not believe the support you have, I have truly seen what is best in people come to fruition as a result of your inspiration and leadership. We are waiting. Please don't leave it to chance. We will do everything we can to draft you--but if you were to run, well that would help a lot.
-
Thanks for the video, and your effort.
Here's hoping that political will is truly a renewable resource!

WOW!
Go Mass...
Could you drop in over in New Hampshire and get going on the write-in when you qualify Mass?
A 3rd place in NH would be significant, 2nd would a political earthquake and something Mr. Gore could point to as a legitimate call of the people.
Write in Gore New Hampshire!

While I agree Gore makes an impressive candidate,
did a bang up job in An Inconvenient Truth, and has
some good points in The Assault on Reason, I am still
utterly mystified by his choice of Lieberman in 2000.
It worries me.

Dear Al:
*
*
*
In our ballot signature drive to get your name on the Democratic presidential primary ballot in Massachusetts, I ask folks the question: Would you like to have Al Gore on the ballot?
*
*
*
For the most part, there are two common and predictable kinds of responses: the first is the excited puppy reaction - "Ohmigod, is he really running?", and I practically have to peel the eager person off me to stop them from grabbing my clipboard and pen, before I instruct them how to sign carefully.
*
*
*
The other response has an element of frustration dipped in annoyance: "Well, it would be great but ... Oh, come ON, he SAID hes not running! Leave him alone - he's doing great work as it is! Why force him back into that morass?"
*
*
*
Why indeed? We all know that politics has been toxic - never more so than in the last 7 years. And theres no doubt that you, Sir, are doing great, great work as a private but global citizen.
*
*
*
Here are two reasons why:
*
*
1) There is no one besides yourself capable of wielding vast power who can offer the breadth of qualities necessary to lead us out of the shambles of the dark neo-con dream of tyranny, conquest, and domination. We need what you have - a quicksilver, open, brilliant mind which sees the big picture, asks the necessary questions, and takes the long view, decades of leadership experience, commitment to democratic principles and the Rule of Law, love of learning & teaching, integrity, moral force, initiative, courage, wisdom, humility, tenacity, vision, faith, electability, orientation to the future, self-sacrifice, noble patriotism, and humanitarian priorities - to usher us into a new era of American innovation and cooperation with others and with the planet itself.
*
*
*
2) The presidency alone can offer you the greatest platform, megaphone, pulpit, and classroom that you will ever have, to use yourself for the highest possible purposes, those of restoring our Constitution and democracy, and of changing the consciousness and direction of America and the world at large, to reach for a future which is sane, liveable, creative, and full of promise.
*
*
*
I repeat: there is no one who comes close to having your vision-powered skill sets to make these changes happen. And without the presidency, your continued influence upon America and the world AFTER January 20, 2009 remains tentative and at risk; someone else would be creating the syllabus for the 21st century.
*
*
*
Its a dirty job, but someones got to do it - lead us (kicking and screaming if necessary!) to save ourselves, save the country and the earth, that is. No one wakes up wanting to be Prometheus or Cassandra or Atlas or Moses, but there you have it. You are the smartest, most decent guy in the room. You deserve to set the agenda for the next 4, hopefully 8 years. Without you at the helm, its hard to imagine that America can ever fully recover from the hemorrhage of principles, alliances, human treasure, material resources, ideas and ideals. You are the best president we never had ... (yet)! So we, who already honor the enormity of your contribution to the world, beg you - step up, Al: weve never needed your leadership more!
*
*
*
I answer the doubters with as much faith as I can muster:
*
*
*
IF WE BUILD IT, HE WILL RUN.
*
*
*
We toil in the vineyards of the growing nationwide (even worldwide) Draft Gore movement, and pray that you will.

Excellent video .. it makes me want to scream though .. why won't he just say if he is in or out?
Come on Al, talk to us. -
I like what was said in this video (my paraphrase)
"Having Al Gore as our president would be a moment of redemption for our country."
We had it so good in 2000 we didn't even know how good we had it. Al, I talk to republican voters and non voters all the time, and many of them are ready to vote for you. Don't believe the media's hype--Americans are not THAT stupid.
"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me!" (and that's the actual saying, not the way our current White House resident said it)
America knows they were bamboozled. The media keep trying to tell us that everything is going well, the economy is fine, but we know it's not true. Some of us because we read the internet obsessively (that would be us on current, dailykos, etc) and some because they are living the nightmare.
We need you. Those of us writing these impassioned pleas need you, of course, because we all are hoping that our planet survives, but even more, the people out there working two jobs, getting informal daycare from relatives and neighbors and unlicensed providers, the people who are really suffering under Bush's rule--they need you.
I'm just a pediatrician, I hear their stories every day. I wish I could be so moving that I could singly change your mind. I know you believe in the power of the written word, and the power of empathy, seeing the world the way others see it. The parents of my patients are suffering, and they don't see any way out. I think that you are most likely to inspire them to care, and to vote. -
Al Gore should definately run for president. And he should change the system at the same time. I'd like to see him not only run as an individual, but pick out a whole cabinet and with it a whole vision of change. Sure an Edwards or an Obama would be an obvious choice for vice which, if garnered in advance (an either would be foolish not accept such an offer), would instantly unite the anti-Billary contingency. But why not get commitments from a few of the best and (among the thinking) most respected individuals for other cabinet posts. Including a few respectable Republicans like Chuck Hagel would be a good move too. An administration is more than an individual. By naming the cast of characters, it would present a picture of the change to come. With all those individuals talking to the media, it would instantly tranform the dialogue. It would basically take the wind out of the sails of every other campaign.

Certainly, if Al were to go on Larry King and state, "If the people will put me on the ballot in all fifty states, I'll run" he would be on those ballots pronto. It worked for Ross Perot, who didn't have half the name recognition or other qualifications that Al Gore has.
But I guess he wants there to be no doubt but that the American people are DEMANDING it of him. So let's do it. Let's get him on the ballot in every state.-

Awesome job Massachusetts!

jason clark, I couldn't agree more! It's time to change American politics. We don't have to stand for one party! We need to stand united as one Country! Americans need to change the dialog. We need voices together representing us all!
What a wonderful video, it warmed my heart. Sure hope Al is taking the time to see how many people want him to run. If he would announce, I think people would take to the streets to support him! I would get in line!
We don't need a Democrat or Republican, we need a Stateman and Al Gore is the MAN! -
Thanks for the great video, and more importantly your patriotic passion. I too have been spreading the word and talking up Mr. Gore at every opportunity. I hope Al realizes that these impassioned showings nationwide are really just the tip of the iceberg. When he announces, there is going to be such a burst of hope, and dedication to ensure that his candidacy is a success by so many in this nation - on ALL sides of the political spectrum. Al truly IS the "Uniter" that this country has been promised by that other, um ... never mind. While it warms the heart to see such good folk like this group take matters into their own hands ( and lay the foundation for the actual campaign ) , I must say that a word from on high would really send this movement into the stratosphere. I despair to see some passionate people already peeling off, and throwing up their arms. Of course they'd be back in a moment's notice, and perhaps are missing the message that this needs to be a grassroots movement from the get go ... but still ... I can understand a little of their feelings. Well, I'M still keeping hope alive ( I don't really have any other choice in that ) . Like so many others that I know, we can't wait to get to work on the actual campaign ! What with us being just almost to the day when there'll be less than a year left to the election , I think the moment has come. I trust Mr. Gore to know when the right time is to announce his candidacy, but like a kid on Christmas Eve ... I can barely wait to wake up to the news. I realize that patience is a virtue, but sometimes when I look at what is happening to this world, I know that we don't have a minute to waste. Let's get to work !!
-
It's a beautiful thing to see such passion for someone so deserving. For the life of me I cannot believe the people of this country are willing to go through the Bush/Clinton/Bush/Clinton monogamy without a huge outcry of concern. I am deeply concerned. Perhaps more so because ultimately I don't know if the US will elect her, leaving us with Guiliani. THIS, might be the end of us. Al Gore, please carefully consider what is at stake here. If you are indeed struggling for an answer I have a suggestion. Ask yourself if you are making the decision based on fear or love. Then, do the loving thing and make that decision. I maintain hope unfailing.

Draft Gore NH needs your help:
I am forwarding the following information from Draft Gore NH. I have met with them in person and believe there is tremendous potential in their plan and efforts. If this state can have success it could have considerable and unforeseen effects on the climate of the presidential campaign. Please contribute.
-Kerry
Al Gore did not enter the New Hampshire primary, so his name won't be printed on the ballot.
But, Al Gore can still be the Democratic Party nominee.
How?
A group of dedicated Gore supporters in New Hampshire are organizing a grass roots campaign to encourage Democratic and Independent primary voters to write in G-O-R-E on the ballot.
The New Hampshire primary has a reputation for ending the campaigns of many front runners. The Clintons are not inevitable or invincible. Both can be beaten with a large pro-Gore voter turnout in New Hampshire.
But we need your help in getting more than 100,000 registered voters to the polls.
Yard signs, buttons, bump stickers, radio/TV internet advertising and a strong field organization all cost money. All the other candidates are millions of dollars ahead of Gore in this key primary state.
So, we need your financial support to catch up.
Your contribution can make it happen: http://www.actblue.com/page/draftgorenh
In addition to contributions-please post this and forward to all pro-Gore sites and supporters
