Does Guitar Hero still have the chops to be worth the ticket price? Or should you wait for Rock Band?

  • Wait for Rock Band...it's going to destroy Guitar Hero. I've played it. And it's amazzzing...with three z's.

  • A little from column A, a little from column B. I don't think it's really a secret that the guys who developed Guitar Hero put their heads together and came up with Rock Band (Guitar Hero, on the other hand, is now an MTV license).

But! Guitar Hero III probably won't ditch any of the stuff that made the first two games memorable. Add to that the fact that Rock Band, while exhilarating, does best when you invest a crap-ton of money into the right peripherals, invite all your most rhythmic friends over, AND have neighbors who won't have you evicted over a boisterous setlist.

What sets both of these games apart from the rest is that they're each fun depending on setting and context -- that is to say, the amount of "fun" each one is, isn't particularly "quantifiable." It depends on the player, his personal tastes, and how he plans to "play" either game. Does that sound like a cop-out?

  • Guitar Hero has always been an MTV product. I'm pretty sure all Harmonix games have had MTV involved in one way or another.

Rock Band is only $170 and can be played online for the most part.

The difference between the two is that Guitar Hero 3 is a game while Rock Band is a more of a simulator.
