Mobile phone company 3 today unveiled its Skype phone, which supports free calls over the internet.

I'm not sure I get how it's different. Can't you already call Skype users from a normal cell phone? What does this do differently, other than have your skype buddy list in it?

If this ensures free calling when I'm not on my computer, I will be very excited
-
will international calls on Skype phone be on "local call" tariff?

I believe the Skype phone goes "in session" over a Wi-Fi connection - allowing free or discounted internet calls without a computer. International calls are billed to your Skype account at the agreed Skype rate - sometimes free and usually very inexpensive. Same quality as when your computer is "in session" via Wi-Fi as in an internet cafe. Enjoy!

@Tori: It's free skype to skype calling and messaging, routed over 3's network - so you can use it like a cell phone. You don't have to pay SkypeIN/SkypeOUT charges, as I understood the press release. Cell calls still cost as they normally do.
