Population growth, a total catastrophe!!

Does any one have any solutions to the current growth trends of the worlds population. This planet cannot possibly provide for the additional 3 billion people that are estimated to be here by 2050. Though i'm sure we'll try our best by dumping tons more fertilizers on our already taxed soils to try and squeeze a little more yield out of our crops. All of which will cause more polluted water, which there won't be nearly enough of either. My only suggestion would be to put severe limits on the amount of people who can have children. I'm pretty sure that the US has reached the point where we are pretty much just maintaining our present numbers (not counting imigration), but we should be thinking about trying to reduce our numbers. I know this is a subject that people will like to ignore more so than global warming, but the fact is that it will need to be addressed. If we choose to ignore it it will eventually lead to a total catastrophe of which we may not recover from.

  • Put a petri disk aside with a small amount of mold - it will grow just as your curve grew until . . . suddenly it will die - or nearly die.

    We will, unfortunately, do the same. Our only alternative - other than population control by choice - is natural die back - just as with any other organism.

    The big growth in population came from technology, public health, and exploration of the Americas (read killing off the less dense population in favor of the explorers.

    Maybe the same thing will happen with Space. We are on the edge of technological advances that may make Star Trek possible - I hope so - because the other alternatives are difficult to accept.
