I agree that you can't deport 12 million people, but the problem with compromising on the issue is that nothing will actually be accomplished because of the modern political disunity. The best course of action is to work toward providing faster and easier legal immigration and legalization of the undocumented workers already in the US. If people could efficiently and effectively legally immigrate there would be no more problems with border control and enforcement of immigration policies. This country needs to overcome its fear of immigrants and embrace the driven and hard working people that actually want to succeed in this country. I say that people are forgetting what this country is supposed to stand for, and being almost reactionary with immigration policies. The extreme desire for self preservation in American Culture today is causing this country to destroy itself. If people could just put aside their own agendas and work for what is nationally and globally benificail we wouldn't have these problems.

Immigration is a non-issue, like gay rights, that is put out there by the right. Most of the immigrants working and I stress working, in the US are here making a better life for themselves, not harming our country. In my area, many of the businesses depend on immigrants to do the work that the "local" workforce would not do. Let's be real and identify people adding to our country and our community and assist them to a more legal place. Deport those that take away from our country and culture by criminal behavior but support those hard working people who only want a better life.
-
Lets talk about what is fair. Illegal Immigrants come to the USA and expect our government to give them handouts. They have NEVER paid into the system. They have NEVER paid taxes. They do not want to learn ENGLISH. An example is all the signs that are in spanish throughout the USA. We don't need the extra load on the governments already limited services. I think that if these illegal Immigrants found out that we are not "the land of milk and money", they would go home or not come here. Some may read this and say "racist". No, let me stop you right there. If illegal Immigrants would go through proper channels and get what they need to be here and become US citizens, learn english and quit tring to get everyone to cater to them. I would welcome them. But that isn't happening is it? They are forcing the issue.
-
Actually you are not a racist, you are of the opinion that illegals pull from our society and you are afraid of losing something by having them here. Asking for handouts, forcing issues, catering? Aren't there "legal" immigrants that don't use English as a primary language? Don't they deserve to be able to read road signs, know which line they should go into? Fear is a destructive emotion, it tears down societies and builds walls between people. Instead of broad brushing anyone that does not speak your language or who might need an accommodation, why not try embracing differences? Lastly, most illegal immigrants do not enjoy the land of milk and honey but they certainly work hard at what they are willing to do. Get a teenager to lay bricks or break their backs for minimum wage, it would not get done. Try to move people from welfare to these jobs, they would not fill. There is a vital role that immigrants play in our society now and have since the beginning of our great nation. Compassion and understanding are called for here, try it you might like it.

He keeps repeating himself. I do not think the comments he made covered the entire scope of the immigration issue here in America.

If I may take the liberty of largely ignoring the video.
Mark_pony's self identification as a non racist is correct but only for technical reasons, where racism is defined as irrational hatred or fear of a race. Immigrants legal and otherwise most closely fit into the category of a class rather than as a race.
What is important to note is that this laundry list of complaints levelled against immigrants is largely mythical. Immigrants who leave home, fit into the category of "economic refugees" and rarely make use of any government aid or support, even those who are aware that these options are open to them rarely feel the need or are unwilling to use these services as a matter of pride.
When it comes to the notion of them being a drain on the economy no idea could be more fabricated, immigrants fill economic niches that absolutely no other group even considers touching. Even if they did use the government services they are alotted they would more than make up for it with the value of their labor. Migrant workers are worth tens of billions of dollars to american agricultural industry, without them we would suffer large scale economic contractions.
The channels for legal immigration are purposely long and labarynthine in their complexity, this labored and wheezing beurocracy fails to respond to the need for immediate economic relief, any sane person when faced with the prospect of starving in Mexico or jumping the border chooses the latter. More importantly it is in our best interest to make our borders more open or just plain open. Given that mexicans perform work that is would still be worth billions to us even if they were payed reasonalbe wages I don't see why we shouldn't do this. On top of that open borders means fewer mexicans, allow me to explain. Immigrants come over the border mainly to gain enough money to send home , if movement between borders was free nearly all would come to work and then go home to stay with family. The increase in wealth on both sides, combined with the release of trade restricitons and tariffs would foster economic growth and be good for everyones wallets.
To be frank isolationism is the surest road to poverty, we need only look at isolated nations of the past and present; North Korea-suffering ongoing famine and terrible poverty, The Soviet Union-Collapsed and suffered intermittent famine and drought, nasty economic state but it was certain that only "native" russians had job, East Germany-A great example in that started, from the same place a west germany and its isolationist policies slowly led it into becoming the largest dungheap in west europe.
So if humanitarian arguments cannot sway you allow pragmatism to do so immigrants are a boon to our nation and economy and they rarely commit crime, as long as the study you are reading distinguishes between recent immigrants and Latinos with more than four generations of US history.

There are a hundred aspects to the topic of entry into the US. The numbers of people actually entering are staggering.
There are not 12 million illegal aliens in the US. There are 12 million illegals in California. The overall estimate for the nation is more on the order of 100 million --in just 30 years.
The subject also has little to do with race.
Today America is disappearing beneath 1.5 million acres of new urban sprawl each year. We did not just absorb 100 million environmentalists. Today there are 350 times as many corporate lobbyists in our government as 35 years ago --we did not just absorb 100 million political reformers. Today we have public education catastrophe --7 out of 10 American high school kids cannot read or do math at their own grade level --we did not just receive 100 million volunteer math and English tutors. Today we lead the world in fatherless households --we did not receive 100 million big brothers. Today America is the 4th leading contributor of greenhouse gasses in the world --and we did not just receive 100 million people who choose to commute by bicycle. Today, 25 million American children get up in the morning and search for something to eat because mom or dad are unemployed or underemployed --we did not just receive 100 million independently wealthy employers. Today every 17 seconds an American woman is raped --we did not just receive 100 million people who are actively interested in women's rights. since 1980 the population of the American prison system has quadrupled --and in the 100 million people who have just dashed into this nation you will find precious few crime preven5tion advocates. Today the fastest growing religion over even Christianity is Islam --and in the millions of people who have recently entered America illegally from the mid-east the will to defy their extremists cannot be found. During the same period that so many people have arrived so quickly and so excitedly the American Civil Rights Movement has crumbled into the dust.
We did not receive the worlds environmentalists, or social humanitarians or political reformers --we did receive those who deliberately abandoned them.
Just a few of the problems with the post 1970 population incursion into the US.

we shouldn't reward breaking the law. so I don't believe illegal immigrants should be given amnesty or an easy "pathway to citizenship" (I guess this is the politically correct term the establishment has whipped up). what's sad is that these illegal immigrants are being scapegoated because of a bad economy due to our miserable failure of a foreign policy. if we had a strong, thriving economy, immigrants would be welcomed! but in this day and age, we're afraid of losing our jobs, we're seeing the middle class disappearing, the wealth is shifitng to wall street and washinton DC, the Federal Government is borrowing 3 billion dollars a day from foreign nations and we're 9 trillion dollars in debt. it's a classic case of terrible fiscal policy. the poor are getting poorer and we're losing our jobs and people are scared of a worsening economy. and so many people blame, even if its unintentional, illegal immigrants. many, many of these people are super hardworking and do only want a better life. we need to do away with NAFTA and other trade agreements which have destroyed small business and local economies in nations such as Mexico and overhaul our ENTIRE foreign policy to avoid a total collapse. a good, healthy, growing, thriving economy needs workers. this should be our goal.
