On November 8th at The Sheffield Docfest's Newcomers Day, Current TV will run a pitching session in which 8 lucky individuals will get chance to pitch live to a panel of Current TV executives.

We hope this will be a lively event in which the commissioners will be open about their deliberations on stage and give detailed feedback.

The best pitch will receive a £1000 commission to make their pitch a reality as well as 2 more commissions to make further pods for Current.

To enter, just write an idea for a pod in a short paragraph and email it to Current
erenshaw-smith@uk.current.com making sure you put "The Current Pitch" in the subject line.

The deadline for submissions is November 1st, 4:30pm GMT.

Current's editorial team will select 8 of the best entries to pitch live at

  • The Current Pitch was a great success! 8 terrific finalists made the journey up to Sheffield and took on the brave challenge to pitch their idea live to not only a panel of Current TV people but also a huge room of festival goers. No mean feat I'm sure you'll agree!

I think it was even harder for us to make a decision on the winning pitch as the quality of the ideas was so high. In the end Mateo Willis came out on top with his pitch about a community in Italy but we ended up commissioning most of the other films as they were all so compelling. If you didn't make it into the final 8 this year, don't worry we'll most likely be doing the same event next year. We'll also be sending feedback to all the people who pitched in in the coming weeks so look out for an email from us.

    The finalists were:

Rory Stamp with his pitch on the largest outdoor carnival in Europe, which takes place in....Bridgewater!

Richard Hoddinott with He Wears it Well, a look at the validity of the toupee as an accessory.

William Dennis with Invisible Heroes about soldiers returning home from the front.

Tristan Anderson with a story about Sarah, a young girl suffering from night blindness

Mateo Willis' Is This Utopia, the winning pitch about the Federation of Damanhur in Italy

Khaldoon Ahmed with a story about an Archery Teacher who is teaching alienated muslim teenagers.

James Bayliss-Smith on Chinese Gold Farming, a strange new industry where young kids are paid to play video games and build up bonus treasures for rich Western gamers to buy.

Mike Arnott and Jennifer Smart with their story about a women who collects found photographs, Amelie-style
