Authorities in Nassau and Suffolk counties will be keeping close tabs Wednesday on some of Long Island's scariest characters - convicted sex offenders who have preyed on young children.
Because the NY Daily News just can't get the public to be alarmed enough.

It's not just New York...policies like that are in place across the country.
Maybe it's alarmist. And maybe it's insulting to sex offenders who have reformed.
On the other hand, having cute little kids show up at your door might just make it just a tiny bit too easy for a past offender to slip back into their old ways.
I think I'd rather offend a dozen convicted sex offenders than have one little kid, abused, kidnapped, or otherwise harmed (heaven forbid, killed). -
You're absolutely right, and I agree. What I'm more interested in is the way the media covers stories like this...they look for reasons to scare the public into buying papers. Maybe their intentions on this one were good, but call me a skeptic...I question just how concerned the public REALLY needs to be in this case.

Ewww... that photo is dirty.

I think that the bizys could do more to prevent these kinds of things instead of locking the kids up for smoking spliffs etc. Tori said its not just New York, policies are in place across the country. Too many times have I been faced with this "what rest of the world?" kind of talk. Anyway, think of this... A kid who is abused by the elders theyre supposed to be able to trust runs away from home. They end up on the streets of their capital city living like shit just to get away. If the person was convicted for doing what they did to make the kid have to run away, they would have a nice cosy cell, tv with digital channels, free food & drink etc. Justice, just like peace, is just a word. It doesnt matter if this seems like its a rant cos its true.

I agree with snedz, we shouldn't send these sicko's to prison, we should simply castrate them. Why do we have to make things so difficult? I'd think twice about touching a child if I was going to lose my balls by doing it, wouldn't you?

That photo seems pretty shopped. Is that the intention?
I'm glad to see those people are being monitored though. It's a fact that sexual offenders are very vulnerable to relapse, and Halloween gives them an easy outlet. I wish more parents would go with their children on Halloween. Too many kids get into trouble or get hurt.
Also, a comment to what "Uckfay" suggested; castration isn't the answer. A man doesn't need his body to violate a someone, and it may not be enough incentive to stop him from indulging in his thoughts. Plus, there are a few women sexual offenders. What of them?-

Painted makes an interesting point, what of the women? I am not a woman, so I'll leave that one up to yall, but I think it should be equal to castration. The key is prevention. And, contrary to what painted may think, a man DOES IN FACT need his body to violate a child sexually.
-
I still must disagree with one point that Uckfay made. I don't want to go into specifics of course, but a man (or a women) can use other objects or other parts of his (or her) body to hurt a victim. I don't seem many options for prevention of a first incident. Parents just need to watch their kids, and for the unfortunate children who's parents are the problem, others must be educated on signs of sexual abuse so they can help end the situation. Offenders need psychotherapy and monitoring, but I don't see what else can be done to effectively change things.

Well, tests have been done on locked away kiddi fidlers who gave consent. By removing the testiclay the sex drive was vitualy destroyed, meaning that they wouldnt even want to put anything in. As for female offenders... I know that I wouldnt have had a problem with intercorse when I was a kid. It would be like "weyhey, now thats something to tell my mates about" if you get me. Girls are different, not going into any detail apart from saying the word hymen. The physical difference between a virgin woman having sex & a virgin man having sex. A girls body can be easily destroyed by one of these kidi fidlers just by having sex whereas a boy wouldnt even touch the sides of a woman.
