"It makes the blood boil," said Teachers College Prof. Elizabeth Midlarsky. "This is a terrible act, not just against me, but against any Jewish people at Columbia."

The events have earned a top level section of the Teacher's College website...
Is there any chance these are kids going from one racist and hateful symbol to the next as a prank, mistakenly thinking it's funny? Or are hateful people from elsewhere coming to the college to act out their hatred and ignorance - ie: the school has become the place to go when you want to do something hateful? Are these small-minded people students at this well regarded Ivy League school? If so, how did they get in?

Shame how this symbol was coopted by such hateful people when in the ancient world it was a symbol of good fortune used in many religions.

@Tori: I have to say, the same thoughts went through my mind. Is it more than one person? Where are these people coming from? Are they really students, or are they outsiders on campus, "following" student events?
And, for just an instant, I had trouble believing that someone at such a good school, in such a big city, would be capable of this. But the heartbreaking truth is, hate is everywhere--even on an ivy-covered campus in the middle of NYC.

Wasn''t the recent noose hung on the teacher's door at Columbia too?
Very puzzling indeed. Xenophobic hate crimes and higher learning just don't seem like they should go together. After all, don't these kinds of sentiments stem from ignorance?

Whoever is responsible for these acts is a complete moron. What a coward.. !!

This could be a response to the recent visit by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, of Iran.
