  • Woah that was sooo long ago!
I didn't even remember what that was all about. So I checked out the Wiki. You can too - click on the link.

  • "I didn't even remember what that was all about." OMG, is that true?

Thanks for checking it out and posting.

  • The Exxon Valdez was a serious matter at the time. The beaches are still black and the fisheries are crippled. The fine having been reduced is enough of an insult. Exxon has allot of nerve appealing even further. They report record profits, and then back out of an obligation.
They owe much more than what the initial fine was. I am appalled.

  • How can Exxon get this put off so long? Are they going to pay+ interest?

  • So, quit buying Exxon, Mobil, Esso products.
Where do you think they get their $18 Billion Quarterly?

  • Exxon Mobil has actually spent money promoting the idea of Climate Change as a cycle of the earth, and opposing the idea that our actions play any part in the Global Warming.

When I purchase gasoline it is never from Exxon/Mobil! I do my business elsewhere.

  • No wonder the gas industry is making record profits they don't even have to pay for their mistakes.

  • No ExxonMobil or Shell!
    Why boycott Shell?

Since the Nigerian government hanged 9 environmental activists in 1995 for speaking out against exploitation by Royal Dutch/Shell and the Nigeria government, outrage has exploded worldwide. The tribunal which convicted the men was part of a joint effort by the government and Shell to suppress a growing movement among the Ogoni people: a movement for environmental justice, for recognition of their human rights and for economic justice. Shell has brought extreme, irreparable environmental devastation to Ogoniland. Please note that although the case of the Ogoni is the best known of communities in Shell's areas of operation, dozens of other groups suffer the same exploitation of resources and injustices.

Plus, I haven't gotten over Shell's refusal to leave South Africa in the 80's, when the apartheid spotlight had been fully shown on South Africa, Shell continued to do business there despite an international chorus of protest, including major companies that pulled out of the country to help force a change in existing practices.

In South Africa, however, the memory is long on apartheid, and many there do not forgive Shell for staying in the country at a time when the highest form of moral support and solidarity with progressive South Africans was to sever all business ties with the racist government.

  • Exxon has set the world record for Profits. Just from one quarter, the last quarter of 2006, it earned 10Billion dollars as pure after tax profit. Exxon is a perfect example of greed mongers who have no ecological conscience. You'd think they were planning on taking their trillions of dollars in profits over the past 10 and the next 10 with them to another planet. What do they need with so much money?
