    I agree.

    He's better than other Republicans, but pretty talk isn't enough. Our planet is on fire; have the guts to come up with a real plan on global warming.

    By the way, we don't "all agree" that we're just guests on the earth. Ann Coulter says we can "rape it; it's ours." This is your party.

    We soon will have no choice but to agree! I think we need to get much more agressive in our approach to conservationism.

    Well, astonishngly, I agree with him. I do feel everything should start on a personal level. But let's not equivocate that, to not going forward with public policies to stop the environmental impact of all mankind. I know he says that there should be policies ... but as someone said "talk is cheap". Mike Huckabee, if you really truly believe this, let's see some proposals and action on your part, Not just votes to support but an actual bill proposed by you aiming to "conserve" as you so aptly put it and curb greenhouse gases and emissions.
    I say emphatically that I respect your ability to put your voice out there and open yourself to debate. This is not typical Republican modus operandi and leads me to believe that you are at least worth your word. I don't agree with you on many things but can say that I appreciate your input and dialogue.

    That also then translates to ending wars, Mr. Huckabee, because they do not allow us to take care of this planet as we should be doing. At least you had the guts to post this here and I appreciate that and do agree that on a personal level we must all contribute to this. I hope to then see your outlined plan to deal with the climate crisis next that will mean taking a much stronger stance against the very industries your party has enabled in all of this that have an even greater responsibility.

    @Jan,

    You can talk about the industries as much as you want.
    The fact remains that the masses consume oil, gas and coal. Not a few CEOs. But Joe Q in your neighborhood.

    It's always easier to blame one person or a small group than tens of millions of people. After all the plebs are always considered innocent.

    Oil and coal companies can sell their "product" because there is demand. And where does that come from? From Rex Tillerson?

    The masses definitely consume oil, gas, and coal. But it's production plants that burn, refine, and process it in mass quantity without the environmental safeguards necessary to prevent the climate changes happening right now. People do play a huge part but again, it's equivocation to pull mass production plants out of this process and demeaning their part by calling them "a few CEO's". Really, how stupid do you think people are? 1 CEO can run a multinational company that has manufacting plants all over the world. How many companies are there? How many plants are there? Anyone recall Bhopal India? That was just ONE company branch responsible for the deaths of thousands.
    I get very frustrated when people rush to the aid of a faceless company or CEO because they would rather blame "the people." The truth is, we share the air, the earth, and the water. No one should be exempt from doing their part to protect this planet. No one.

    Stardate:
    You just blamed "Joe q" so what's your point regarding blaming one person?." Tell me I have the choice TODAY of filling my tank with anything but gas and I'll do it. You know these companies lobby hard in DC to keep oil in the mainstream and other sources in the background. You can't be that naive... can you? Until then stop making excuses for the EXXONS of this world that have done nothing but make profits off of tragedies and manipulated the markets for their own benefit. With oil now close to 100 a barrel, don' t sit there and tell me that corporations and politicians making the most off it aren't jerking our chains. But don't worry, more people are waking up every day , and will be laying down in front of bulldozers to prove that we want change and are tired of having the status quo shoved down our throats.

    I agree that we need to hold corporations accountable for the choices they provide, but people everywhere are providing alternative solutions. You can fill your car with vegetable oil, biodiesel, or even convert your car to electric for under 5,000 dollars. There are options.

    @Jan

    You just blamed "Joe q" so what's your point regarding blaming one person?."

    Huh? Joe Q does not mean one person. And you know that. It means the average person. There are quite a few average persons as far as I know, not just one.

    "Tell me I have the choice TODAY of filling my tank with anything but gas and I'll do it. "

    You can actually use an electic car or not use a car at all as most people on Earth don't even have cars.
    If you use one that's your decision. You are responsible for that not the CEO of ExxonMobil.

    If you want to consume gasoline fine. But then don't whine about oil companies getting rich. They couldn't be rich without people like you who simply can't imagine life without gasoline consumption. Before you blame others take a look in the mirror.

    "You know these companies lobby hard in DC to keep oil in the mainstream and other sources in the background. You can't be that naive... can you?"

    You can't be that arrogant can you?
    Oil is in the mainstream because mainstream America can't imagine life without it. Without consumers you can't sell a product. I think that is obvious.

    "Until then stop making excuses for the EXXONS of this world that have done nothing but make profits off of tragedies and manipulated the markets for their own benefit."

    I'm not making exuses for Exxon, I say that they are not the most relevant players in this game. Consumers like you and tens of millions of other Americans are. And you are making exuses for yourself and for them.

    "With oil now close to 100 a barrel, don' t sit there and tell me that corporations and politicians making the most off it aren't jerking our chains. "

    No they are not making the most of it. The average person is making the most of it. The billions of consumers worldwide who enjoy the oil-driven economy every day and have no intention to change their lifestyle at all. Oil couldn't be close to $100 barrel without them.

    "But don't worry, more people are waking up every day , and will be laying down in front of bulldozers to prove that we want change and are tired of having the status quo shoved down our throats."

    Laying down in front of bulldozers is stupid.
    Even if it was not it wouldn't change a damn thing -- especially not in the oil sector.
    We want change? Who are you talking about?
    Who are this "we"? Most Americans? Most people?
    And exactly what kind of change are you talking about?

    You may keep on dreaming but it's pretty obvious that
    most Americans will not drop their oil addiction without another mechanism that is at least as cheap and convenient as gasoline usage will be widely available.

    @Irradescence

    " I get very frustrated when people rush to the aid of a faceless company or CEO because they would rather blame "the people." "

    Exuse me but exactly who puts 70 million tons of CO2/day into the atmosphere? A faceless company or CEO? No. The people. Why not talk about them instead of just a minority which produces something that billions consume every day?

    "No one should be exempt from doing their part to protect this planet. No one."

    That's why it's dishonest to blame a minority and let the majority get away.
    Compared to the billions of average consumers the number of people managing companies is very small.
    And despite that most people are entirelly comfortable blaming them and them only while forgetting the role of the masses. It's convenient and arrogant at the same time.

    You can talk about Bhopal but that has nothing to do with the daily routine of massive fossil fuel consumption. They are not even similar.

    I enjoy reading what both Stardate and Jan have to say. I've heard now from both you guys on a few different topics. I think were on the same team? Change happens at the speed of thought. Washington's corrupt, and the people of this country are a lot of talk. Now what?

    Imagine, a conservative that is a conservationist, in the word. I am surprised that Mike Huckabee, a Republican and such a religious person that he is, would use science to agree that global warming is a threat to us as a species, a guest of the Earth. Instead of a bible literalist who thinks that the world will end in some very non scientific apocalypse.
