The United States of America.
What do you think of when you hear that? Many would say freedom. I know I do. However the older I get the more I realize how ?un-free? I really am. Not to say that everyone should be running wild in the streets cutting off the heads of all they hate, yes there is a limit with in reason. The point I?m getting at is the on going topic of gay rights. Once just some peoples? annoyance, now a hot political topic, what exactly is the problem with this marriage thing? Some say it?s a ?gateway? law for people to want frivolous things, like marrying animals and such, but I?ve yet to meet a dog that could sign a marriage license. Others think it?s a damaging environment to raise children around, but murderers, felons, AND child molesters are all allowed to procreate. Gay marriage doesn?t contribute to the continuation of the spices is another one I laugh when I hear. Neither do infertile couples or the elderly, but their marriage is still guaranteed by law.
Yet, a major issue is that it?s against the teachings of the Bible.
My question I want to ask the government is this, when has America ever adopted a nation-wide religion? When was it decided that the bible is America?s ruling document? I?m not saying it?s a bad or good religion, I?m not saying it doesn?t have positive or negative values in it. But why are things said in it deciding the politics of a group of American?s rights. Would all the people who came to found America in the first place think this way? It leaves me with the thought of irony at the end of the day.. Wasn?t America founded as a place free from religious persecution? Doesn?t freedom OF religion also mean freedom FROM religion. A place free from having a religion that they don?t want forced over their life. Was that not what started this country? I?ve always learned that in school, but it?s not being shown to me now in life. Who is it hurting to pass this as a legal right anyways? It might offend people.. So do a lot of other things though, and I think it hurts more then it helps by not making this legal. Think of how much less money the government makes from not getting this populations marriage license funds.
Anyways this was a little point of view that turned into a long rant, I would like to see what others think--

  • I agree with the general sentiment of your rant. I also wish that people could open their eyes to the other side of the religious coin which as you put it means "freedom FROM religion."

  • This neo-cons of this country would like us to be a full-out facist theocracy. We're a very sad country to admit being a citizen of. Just listen to the latest with Pat Roberts and his backing of R. Guillani for GOP. ugh ... when will this shit stop?

Oh, and Separation of Church and State ??? Does anyone KNOW that is part of the Constituition anymore????

  • Well said, Anexis!

It is sometimes a good idea to stand back and reverse the religions and see just how much similarity they mirror with INTOLERANCE of the other.

The very word "evangelism" denotes a selling of that religion. I overhear both Muslims and Christians refer to a struggle or a battle to take their religion to the rest of the world.

While we often hear of Muslims who want to spread Islam, "Onward Christian Soldiers" is a hymn that speaks of those Christian troops engaged in a similar battle.

Please, other posters, do NOT try to compare or contrast Mainstream Muslims and Christians to the looney tunes extremists who KILL in the name of BOTH religions.

And before you forget the murderers within the Christian faith, look at some of the cults, abortion clinic bombers and yes, even the advocacy for killing Hugo Chavez.

We do NOT have the right to enforce our will on the rest of the world even though we have a President who has ignored that fact.
