I don't know that the party lines define what people want. I think its more of a corporate thing. Corporations want to pay people as little as possible for efficiency in this mass-production fiasco. To be honest, there ideal capitalism is not present in the United States so the workers just get screwed. With any sort of un-ideal capitalism, the rich get more money by giving less money to the poor, as simple as possible. If the rich are deciding the wages of the poor and if money means power, then the way to get more money, is to take the rightfully earned money from the workers and keep it for the owners.

I don't entirely disagree with your analysis, provided that when you speak of Republicans and Democrats you are referring to the politicians in each of the parties who have been corrupted by the corporatist movement which uses elements of both parties to influence legislation in favor of the international corporations. However, I do not agree with your statement the poverty will always exist. Humanity has the potential to wipe out poverty. To assume we cannot is to deny this potential.

I disagree with your statement--when we decide that it is better for most of us to live a modest life, and not just a handful of us, poverty will finally no longer be an issue.
Don't blame the politicians--they are a refection of us. Don't blame the corporations--they are comprised of us. Face the reality--We are the problem.
So instead of blaming everyone but you, what are you going to do to help resolve the issue of poverty?
Whatever the solution is, I'm ready to give up a few things in order for more to have a decent life. How about you? -
What's wrong with a welfare state? Progressive government seems to be working quite well in Europe. Do you prefer freedom from poverty or freedom from scare words like welfare?

I agree with most of what you said. However, I'd like to add that many big Republican donors also want illegal immigrants working on their farms and in their factories because they don't have to pay them minimum wage or benefits.
Much, if not all of todays financial crises and job problems are due to how businesses operate. They clamour for tax breaks and subsidies so they can inovate, become more productive and create jobs. Unfortunately what they most often end up doing is stifiling creativity (think Microsoft) and creating jobs....overseas. I 've begun thinking there no such thing as an American company. Why? Because they will do business with any government be it a dictatorship (Pakistan), theocratic (Saudi Arabia, Iran,) or Communist (China) government. They have more money than most countries and they have abassadors called lobbyists. They operate in their own interest and often in opposition to what is best for the United States citzens(shipping jobs and factories overseas and attempting to get everything deregulated, claiming voting software can't be examined because it's proprietary). They set up their headquarters offshore to avoid paying taxes and often move large portions of their operations to other countries (think Halliburton to Dubai). Given this, it's my opinion that American businesses, primarily the multinationals, be considered foreign entities on US soil i.e. they can only stay here as long as they obey the law, they don't work to subvert the US constitution and the legitimate interests of our government and US citizens. Any violation of these general rules would result in a major fine and that company and it's subsidiaries would be forbidden to do business in the US for a period of time. Extreme? Not really considering how they operate. -
I agree with what you are saying until we the people can put elected representatives ,instead of special interest groups into power we will have the same old-same-old ! We need a big change in politics!!! Big Business is running our country without a conscience and it shows !! I hope this country does turn around before it's to late!

It's a "gumbo" mix of objectives including party/political lines. Which eventually brings us to the "CORPORATE WELFARE". BILLIONS OF DOLLARS from TAX INCENTIVES from overseas ventures as well as domestic. It would not be "marginal" if everyone shared the so called "WEALTH" .But as we know, "GREED" is the premptive "MARGINALIZER"....

Mark has it right. Why should the average American struggle with finances while fat cat corporate executives make more money in an hour than most of us do in a year? If they keep exporting jobs, we'll soon be a third world country. The average citizen needs to become more involved with our political processes; it's a patriotic duty.

The average American struggle with finances because's he choose too he could change jobs or go back to school and if he works he can take class after work unless he's to lazy. And all of the big companys worked hard to get where there at.

Leharp,
Surely you can't be that naive...The so called "privileged" take advantage various forms of "affirmative action" such as AP programming, Legacy Points, Redlining, tax write offs for over seas ventures(indivduals and corporate entities) billions of dollars. So the young man or woman that couldn't attend college for whatever reason, but could earn a half way decent living at the factory in their own community, is now unemployed. Or working 2-3 dead end jobs and is not there to nurture and discipline their children which causes another problem(crime) then we/socoiety will blame the parents because the didn't spend enough time with the children...On and on and on and on...
These so called "patriot" corporation jobs are over seas. Just call one of the customers service centers and ask where is the physical location Working @ Father's corporation over seas(London, Rome, US). And the list goes on. Most of the general public don't know this because they are "CONSUMED" with CONSUMERISM. Because Father can make one phone call and alter Jrs' life or little susies life...for the better...no matter how many times he or she been arrested from distribution of controlled subtances, or embezzlement, etc...
By no means am I saying all people who have capitalized on there opportunity didn't earn it. I am saying opportunity is not in abundance and society in general are not taught how to captilize on when opportunity presents itself as many people tend to believe. Research some of the curriculums at high schools in your town Urban and suburban. Then weigh it against your "LAZY THEORY"
DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE-

Most if not every one can go to college theres student aid you could go part time and work and then get a student loan. Most of the people that complain about not having much money don't go out there and really try. You also have to make your own opportunity in life it don't come easy and thats when my LAZY THEORY comes into play. Companys are going over seas but tell the govermnet to get them back over here....yea thats right i almost forgot all 300 million citizens vote so they can....not

Of course poverty will always be here. it is an economic truth that there can be no highs without the lows. HOWEVER it is currently overwhelmingly hight because of NAFTA, immigration, demographic illiteracy, and over all ignorance, there has never been a civilization in the history of the world that did not have poverty, but we can make it much much better than what it is now.

I feel that if you have a positive view of things it turns out positive, like at the end of the video where he says his kids well be screwed , how does he know? Americans have always risen to the challenges that face them, so I believe that we will not be screwed.

I agree with him on some level. In order for capitalism to work, some must succeed and others must fail. Bottom line. Our wealth depends on the poverty of others. Think about it. We don't export jobs, we don't allow illegals there for inflation will occur because it is expensive to make things in America by Americans. So you have a society that is less wealthy but a world that potentially could be less impoverished. Thats the theory. Basically poverty can be eradicated with the destruction of excessive wealth. Therefore, there will always be poverty.
