The founder admits that his website probably only tracks 10% of global incidents... How useful is this? Wouldn't it be better to put energy into trying to prevent problems instead of reacting to them?? How about global incidents of starving children, child abuse, homelessness....etc. Otherwise, Morgan Clements might as well radio collar immigrants and put video cameras that stream straight to youtube.com in every prison around the world. Or how about global incidents of white collar crime? that would be telling.

I agree with Vierotchka that keeping the fearful afraid is important, at least if you want to control their thinking. Apparently there is an agenda to do just that.
Also, I think a primary objective of a bureaucracy is to perpetuate its own existence. Job security. The new bureaucracy we have called Homeland Security, will have to justify its continued existence by finding security threats everywhere. The reality of life is that there are threats and dangers. But, gradually the people in HS may condition themselves to see everything and everyone as a security threat, and that is very troubling because of the path it leads all of us down. Imagine restrictive national travel checkpoints (like we currently have at the airports) at bus stations, train stations, gas stations or state or county borders.
Or a microchipping implantation to track the activities of citizens, and every time you leave the confines of your house or work area your activities would be view suspiciously. (Because thats how the KGB thinks... oops my bad.., thats how the Homeland Security Service thinks.) - 4 years ago

It's clear it is intended as an attempt to keep the fearful afraid. Propaganda.
Vierotchka, in addition to lightning strikes, Americans are millions of times more likely to be victimized and their lives degraded by credit card company's interest rates and penalties; US corporations seeking increased profits by exportation of jobs to undeveloped countries; junk food; genetically modified foods; etc.; etc.; etc.; etc.; than anything external to our country.
It does help to distract us from what is being done to our country by greed doesn't it though?

People in general and Americans in particular are thousands of times more likely to be struck by lightning than to be hurt or killed in a terrorist attack.

I don't know what the purpose of this page is exactly. It doesn't really help in prevention in anyway, maybe it give a false sense of security since "there's no 'incidents' near me." So I guess it's just to raise awareness aka SCARE!

the founder and publisher of the maps was on NPR's program "On the Media" talking about the map.
There's a transcript and the audio file.
