San Francisco has hundreds of yoga studios. With the high concentration of places to roll out your mat, comes choices. A yogi or aspiring yogi can choose from a variety solid master teachers, several types of yoga, and classes from 5:30 in the morning to Midnight. Does all the hub-bub and trendiness of this ancient practice ever feel overwhelming? Hell yes! For advanced students who have been practicing yoga for years, San Francisco is like a dream, and because these individuals are so far along in their practice, they are often able to tune-out the distractions of practicing alongside 60 other sweaty people. However, I don't know how beginning yogis ever last in this place... trying to begin a practice in this city is like trying to sleep with a car horn blowing in your face. But fret not. My message to all new yoga students: there is a light at the end of the tunnel. If you can find a place and teacher where you feel safe and supported, stay with it, and you'll soon realize why this practice has lasted centuries. Some places to start: yoga classes offered at your gym, www.yogatreesf.com, www.laughinglotus.com, www.theloftsf.com, www.itsyoga.com, www.internationalorange.com....and many more.
