"Dozens of dead and injured seabirds found coated in black goo are the most visible victims of a 58,000-gallon oil spill in the San Francisco Bay, an incident that scientists say could threaten wildlife for years."
This is just terrible.

Pilot's recordleft a little to be desired, even though he and crew apparently passed sobriety tests.

Well I hope he's never allowed to pilot another ship then, dense fog or not, this guy obviously had a bad record and now look at the devastation it has caused? It's very unfortunate.

they should just make him eat all those innocent birds.

From the article: "More than 12 hours after the incident, Coast Guard officials were still saying just 140 gallons had leaked, according to Mayor Gavin Newsom." Whether they honestly couldn't determine the gravity of the spill, or someone simply wasn't ready to talk about it, that's gut-wrenching.
I was talking to another man in my building about this yesterday. He said that the boat had something like 2100 feet to work with? In this modern age, we rely so much on radars, dopplers, GPSes, and dinging blips, when all we have to really do is look out our windows. Seems like something similar must have happened to the ship. -
How do confuse 58 THOUSAND gallons with a few meager hundred. It is gut wrenching for sure.
