At the Ibero-American summit in Chile, Spain's King Juan Carlos told Hugo Chavez to "shut up" after the Venezuelan president repeatedly interrupted the panel and called former Spanish President Jose Maria Aznar a "fascist."

"¿Por qué no te callas? (Why don't you shut up?)" King Juan Carlos asks Chavez in this video on El Pais.

After Chavez's mic was cut, Current Spanish President Jose Luis Zapatero asked him to be more diplomatic and respectful saying, "Former President Aznar was democratically elected by the Spanish people and was a legitimate representative of the Spanish people."

  • A MONARCH in the 21st century? KING Juan Carlos - are you kidding me?
Uh I think 'KING' Juan Carlos saying something is a joke.
He's a Monarch - who elected him to anything? God?

Monarchy's were generally abolished in the 1800's.

Hugo Chavez has been elected and re-elected by the Venezuelan people many many times. He's a true representative of the disenfranchised masses of Venezuela. Chavez actually represents something.

  • PHubb, Chavez won't roll over and give us his oil. Naturally we don't like him. Looks like maybe we ought to bomb him too. Check the Project For The New American Century's schedule.

The king of Spain left the table! He was very upset because Nicaragua's president also supported Chavez!

  • A few things about the episode:

    1) Chavez called Aznar of fascist in one event.

    2) Juan Carlos told Chavez to shut up in another event, when he was arguing with Spanish Premiere, Zapatero.

    3) Aznar supported the coup against Chavez in 2002.

    4) Juan Carlos was indicated by dicator Franco to succeed him as head of state in Spain, so, maybe, he was a bit sensitive with all this "fascist" talk...
