There appears to be some logic behind Ahmadinejad's ridiculously outlandish statement last month while guest lecturing at Columbia University that "there are no homosexuals in Iran."
They are simply executed.
The state of Iran operates under Sharia law, which is law based upon the Muslim tenets of the Koran, which condemns sex between people of the same sex. It is not legal to be homosexual and you are executed.
Incidentally, since the Koran says nothing about having gender reassignment surgery, it is completely legal under Sharia law in Iran to have a sex change. Tehran has become a capital in the Muslim world for transsexuals to have sex change operations due to this particular loophole in religious thought. There is a compelling documentary called "The Birthday" that explores this issue.
The contradictions inherent in this particular issue bring to light extremely compelling issues of sexuality, religion, law, and how they interpret and define human rights.

More photosof the hanging of the two boys pictured above.
Also, a long list of links about the treatment of gays in Iran.
I feel sick to my stomach. -
transsexual freedom, homosexual oppression in Iranthis is a link to an interview with the director of that film mentioned above called "Birthday" about gender reassignment surgery in Tehran...

And even more current is the story of the 15-year-old French boy who has accused two men from the UAE of molesting him.
Officials in Dubai told him to keep his mouth shut - they even threatened to charge him with "homosexuality."
Another case of Sharia Law and archaic reasoning in the face of real-world issues...

while i'm not blind or ignorant to the fact that this, among many other horrific things, go on in iran and all around the world, it still hurts so much hearing about each individual story. i can't, for the life of me, understand why people are killed for their personal sexual preference. i'm very proud to be persian but am horrificly ashamed of its laws.

So sad.....All the horror so many people are faced on a daily basis. -
OMG, I thought we were intolerant of gays in the US. This gives me perspective, too much perspective. How much stuff like this goes on around the world? Any is too much.
One world, one people, we are one.-

Religion does run our government and we are only a few steps behind Iran in this issue, I think you missed the point.
-
Hey! Don't hate! Congratulate! I was being facetious! No need to get upset... it detracts from the issue at hand! I apologize for my sarcasm.
