The fifth element has just been added to Hip Hop: chess. The Hip Hop Chess Federation (HHCF) just held a tournament with Wu Tang legends the RZA and the GZA in attendance. These two emcees and others break down chess and it's application in the game of life.

It's really neathearing them talk about how chess can relate to life and to hip hop. What a great idea and a really positive way to get involved.

wu tang is for the kids!! -
YO, this is tight. "Chess is a game of stratagey", Hip Hop is about stratagey. There are similarities that the wu tang and the founders of HHCF see and promote, but I doubt that anyone outside the hip hop/wu tang scene would see the connections. In fact I am sure some people would find it rediculous. But that just shows how advanced a group like the HHCF is. Big Ideas and Big Dreams leads to Big Living.

I don't like chess and am not fond of Hip Hop, but if something like this was going on in my hometown I would go.
Anything that promotes verbal skills, logical thought, and future planning is an activity that I want to support. -
I support this fully. Some of the things they said even got me thinking.

RZA/GZA activist wings of Voltron. GZA showing up with the licorice stalk in his mouth, the Chinese herbalist. RZA Buddhist warrior, GZA Meditation Master. Raw we give it to ya, with no Trivia...

This is just one of the many ways in which hip hop and the surrounding culture can, and do uplift the youth of today. It is so refreshing to see TV coverage of an event that sheds a positive light on hip hop, an art-form that from its very origins is intended to bring people together in a competitive but ultimately friendly way. The Wu Tang clan is so deep into chess, its surprising to me how new this event is.

the topic is good and so is the impact on the children. there needed to be more movement. Maybe some more b-roll would have helped.

This is awesome. I used to teach chess in an after-school program; and seeing kids utilizing forward thinking, using tactics, and even making strategies is so fulfilling. Seeing kids excited about playing timed games is just amazing. This great work!
I also found out about this today: http://video.nbc11.com/player/?id=239662

Wow!!! What A Great Idea!...But what took so long?? Chess not only has ties with Hip-Hop but also has to do with Life in general. I've been playing since 6 yrs. old and I have learned alot from this game. ALWAYS BE A MOVE AHEAD!!...

I think Hip-Hop & Chess is a very good idea because now days the majority of teens & adults love to listen to the music. And if we can combine the both and focus them to a better cause we all benefit. Not only in the mind but in society!
