  • Wiki on the Race Card check it out!
I still don't understand why people call it that, or even use that. It's not like it's a good thing to use. Usually it means someone feels discriminated against. Playing the race card, hmmm.

I don't know how I feel about sitcoms starting to use stereotypes. I think sometimes it can be used to break down barriers. If it is done too much, it may allow for people to feel okay thinking that all people of one race are the same.

  • What's the difference between this very transparent comedic view of racism and ALL IN THE FAMILY. It is obvious that Larry David did not intent to offend anyone, nor did he use the N word without context. In fact, if anything, he showed both how there are still people using the N word to hurt, as well as how using it in context can be miscontrued by someone only hearing part of the story. If Larry was surrounded by a bunch of hooded KKK members using the word to ridicule an African American it would be unacceptable, but he was surrounded by a wonderful cast of talented people who happen to be African American This is not racism, it's art. Power to the people!

  • I think there is a very fine line when it comes to all of this and what is acceptable to some might not be to others, as well all have our own standards and opinions.

Maybe in a way stereotypes based on race are funny in the sense that we realize how ridiculous they are in these situations. Maybe humor based on these stereotypes can lead to a better understanding of different groups of ppl and how nothing applies to everyone.

  • Really interesting post. One minor point: Stanley on The Office does issue sassy remarks, even if his "bluesy wisdom" is an invention of Michael Scott...
