This pod follows the efforts of two artists in Arunachal Pradesh, India, to learn more about the status of Buddhist traditional art in their state. With the hopes of starting the first painting workshop in 2008, they travel around the Tawang district and visit monastries and temples. It also follows them to Bhutan, where they travel to learn how the painting institutes work there. It follows a particularly Himalayan vision, collabortion and journey to recover and renew traditional art in the region.

great work! The loss of local culture is something that is happening all over the world. I like to see people taking steps to revive it. Great work Dechen.

Nice work Dechen, it's great to see the young artist exploring traditional work. Do you have any footage or pictures you could post here of her contemporary art?

MINAM PAINTINGMinam has lived and worked in Mumbai, India since 2002. One autumn in 2006 she returned home to Arunachal Pradesh, and trained under thangka painter, Sonam. Her own thangka uses an unconventional color scheme, and she became interested in the way thangka painting, as a classic traditional art engages in spirituality, creativity and community. Sonam learnt the skill from his own father, and only paints when he finds time off from his day job. -

Dechen,
Thank you for sharing this glimpse of a part of the world that few of us have had a chance to see. Please keep up the good work.
Besides the solid video, I also like your choice of music.
