I am a gun owner and am a supporter of gun rights. I really don't see why people insist on so much control over ownership of firearms for law abiding citizens. It stems to the ability to protect one self from the criminal population but also a tyrannical government. Being able toward off a tyrannical government is the main reason that the 2nd amendment was written.
To quote the founding fathers: "One loves to possess arms, though they hope never to have occasion for them." --Thomas Jefferson to George Washington, 1796.
Which is true for those of us legal gun owners that follow the laws that are written, no matter how unconstitutional they maybe. When you start to take guns away from the law abiding population then what happens to them? They have a higher chance of falling victim to gun crime. Gun control does nothing but enable criminals since if you take all the guns away, there is no more deterrent. By definition a criminal is someone who breaks the law, why do people assume it will be different with gun laws. Look at the statistics form the FBI compared to the Brady Campaign grades. The state of Idaho gets an F+ from the Brady Campaign because they uphold the 2nd amendment yet in it's largest city Boise population 198,212 (in 2006 when these statistics were taken) had a total of 6 Murders/Homicides & non-negligent manslaughter, making that a rate of 3.03 per 100,000 people.
Let's compare that to Washington D.C. population 581,530 and a Brady Campaign rating of B- (only reason it's not an A is because US Congress can repeal the strict gun laws), in 2006 Washington D.C. had 169 Murders/Homicides & non-negligent homicides, making a percentage of 29.06 per 100,00 people. That is almost 10 times the murder rate of Boise, and why do you think that is? One good reason is because the residents of Washington D.C. at the time were not allowed to own handguns at all. When criminals know that they are going to have the advantage they are not going to stop. This is one reason why having an armed public would help crime rates become lower.
The Brady Campaign would like you to think that a state such as Idaho that has a F rating is dangerous and that the streets are painted with blood because everyone shoots each other for no reason at all. But as you can see, it is the exact opposite.

This is why they want to take our guns away.So they can become the tyrannical government we don't want and we can't do anything about it.
